That's great. I have only heard of her a little. I'm not totally sure if I know who she is. I know she's an actress...but I've never seen her work.

My top Shirley MacLaine recommendations: The Apartment: Billy Wilder's Screenwriting Tips (As told to Cameron Crowe):
1. The audience is fickle. 2. Grab 'em by the throat and never let 'em go. 3. Develop a clean line of action for your leading character. 4. Know where you're going. 5. The more subtle and elegant you are in hiding your plot points, the better you are as a writer. 6. If you have a problem with the third act, the real problem is in the first act. 7. A tip from Lubitsch: Let the audience add up two plus two. They'll love you forever. 8. In doing voice-overs, be careful not to describe what the audience already sees. Add to what they're seeing. 9. The event that occurs at the second act curtain triggers the end of the movie. 10. The third act must build, build, build in tempo and action until the last event, and then -- that's it. Don't hang around. Some Came Running: Sweet Charity: Postcards From the Edge: Terms of Endearment:

Thanks, Googa. I think I've heard of a couple of those titles. She must be a very good actress.

Oh, I finally saw The Apartment a couple of months ago. Her chemistry with Lemmon is wonderful.

Ronny Sr. wrote: Unless they've redone it, it's a little older. It was on one of the cable networks. The younger Coco was much more impressive than the MacLaine. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1094661/ That's the one, Ronny. I guess it was made for TV, then.

I love The Apartment.
And I don't think Irma La Douce is a bad movie, Kurt. I like it. It's filmed like a play on film, so the scenery is low-rent, but it's top rate in my book.

It's just tough for me to get over the entire "French" cast having American accents. I enjoy watching it, I just don't think of it as one of Lemon or MacLaine's better movies.

Maybe, but: 1. Shirley Maclaine didn't make many great movies, Lemon did. 2. I'm not aware of another one where they were together (at least young). 3. I'm not aware of another one where either of them was written and directed by Billy Wilder. Therefore, the film is hopeless and inextricably bound to The Apartment as a follow up, and which increases the goodness.

And yes, "¨The Apartment" is one of the best movies ever, edited by the great George Tomasini.
