An iPhone killer? This new LG Voyager phone that Verizon offers looks good: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071003/tc_ ... hones_dc_4The main thing about it I like is that it is a "touchie" like the iPhone on the outside, but opens up like a clamshell to reveal a full qwerty keyboard and a second screen on the inside. Main problem I see: although details are sketchy, I don't think this is a "smartphone" with an operating system. So no Blackberry/Treo functionality for those of us who need to get our work emails to justify work paying for the service. (Same problem with iPhone).

I just picked up a new Motorola's Droid, which uses Google's Android operating system. This thread is my first post at IMWAN with it. Anybody else got one?
The IMWAN experience is fantastic on it.

Jay, is it possible to post a screenshot of what we look like on the Droid?

My peanut brain is maxed out trying to think of a way.
I suppose I could could take a digital photo of it and post that when I get home.

Weird keypad, but I do appreciate the Cut Left key where most people would expect a "backspace" key.
How do you make a greater than symbol? And what does the SYM key do? Is that how you get the symbols—not the Function key? This is running a Linux system, but there's no case sensitive Shift key? It must, for Jay's message has upper and lower case.

Hmmm. I guess maybe that SYM key is the Shift key. What a strange Shift arrow. And so, you hold down Fn + Shift + a key to get a symbol? What does the Fn key do without the funny arrow shift key?
And why did they waste the number keys by not giving them additional modifier key functions?

And why did they waste the number keys by not giving them additional modifier key functions? None of the questions are applicable to the actual device. That was some kind of Swedish meatball version or something.

That's much better. It has a tab key. What's the funny looking key with the lines on it to the left of the right ALT? Visually, it says "Hanging Indent" to me.

It performs the same function as the similar key on the front of the device. In every screen you're looking at (app, whatever), that menu always has the most pertinent choices for the task at hand. (I suppose it's like right clicking).

Beachy wrote: Li'l Jay wrote: That was some kind of Swedish meatball version... Doubtful that, as you cannot use it to write svensk köttbullar. So, definitely something else. I just figured out that the first picture is a Motorola Droid Devour, which is set to roll out on Verizon in March.

Brotoro wrote: I thought you were vehemently opposed to the idea of typing on a touch screen. No, my Dad has a Droid and he says he likes the touch screen keypad. But he didn't like the one on the Storm. I do like having a physical keyboard. I consider it a value-added feature, all things being equal. I'm partial to the sliders, which makes me a Droid person. I think for hard core emailing (work emailing), I'm going to need that physical keyboard. But for filling in all sorts of fields, the touchscreen is nice.

I can't stop playing with it -- adding widgets and rearranging everything. This is made of awesome. It's got my work Outlook and my Google persona seamlessly synced.

Well, to answer the question posited by the thread. iPhone. No question.
