I want to get some CD/DVD burning software for my new laptop.

I was thinking of getting Nero 11, but the reviews on AmazWAN are mostly negative, so I'm thinking about something else.

I don't need high-end software, just a good, reliable burning program. I don't burn as many CDs or DVDs as I used to, but would like to have a good working program for when I need to.

Download the free version and reject the Ask toolbar during installation. Except maybe in Geff's case, this little software can handle pretty much all of a person's burning needs.

Does it work, Linda? I downloaded some free burning software and it didn't work when it came to ripping my CDs.

Yes. I use it myself, Chris. Like you, I don't burn many discs anymore, but when I do this software has proven to be fast, simple and accurate.

Does this software not do direct copies of CDs? I have to use a separate program to rip?

It might. I've never even checked. My CD backups are on external drives, not burned discs, and they're all ripped to FLAC.

Let's see ... it looks like only the pay version will do disc-to-disc copies:

I figgered as much. Is it a hassle to rip with one verson of free software and burn with another?

I've always done it that way. For precision's sake, I'd say it's a better method, but only you can judge whether the extra steps would become a hassle for you.

Then again, I rip DVDs using one software and burn with another, so I guess it's the same deal.

Looking through the functions on the free version ... Chris, you can rip the original CD to an image file with this, then use the same software to burn that file to a CD-R. You'd end up with an exact copy in just two steps.

I think I'll give this a try and see what happens. Free is better than paying -- provided the software works right.

It ripped it to something called a CUE/BIN image file. I burned that to a CD and it sounds good. Easy, too!

I think I've found me my new burning software.

Thanks, Miss Linda!

My old computer had a program (Roxio, I think) that would allow you to segue tracks. It was a lot of fun to play with. Does this program have anything like that?

I don't believe so.

Tried the CD out in the car today and it sounded great! Just like the CD it was ripped from.

I am glad I read the reviews of Nero 11 at Amazon before I bought

and I would once again, like to thank Miss Linda for recommending this free software.
