It wasn't quite the golden year that was 2008, but we got two solid winners with X-Men and Cap. I'm happy.

And I don't really know why I posted this downstairs. Can one of our awesome mods (or Jeff) move it to the Playroom?

I went with X-Men: First Class, largely on account of Michael Fassbender's pitch-perfect Magneto. My rankings:
1. X-Men: First Class
2. Thor
3. Captain America
4. Green Hornet . . . . . . . . . . . . . -500. Green Lantern

Thor and the X-Men were both pretty good, neither was "hall of fame" material though. Captain America was good and Green Hornet was pretty fun. Green Lantern was awful but had some visual appeal.
X-Men had the best story but suffered from mediocre design and directing, so I gave it to Thor.

Based on the summer comic flicks I've seen thus far:
1. X-Men: First Class 2. Thor 3. Green Lantern
Hoping to see Cap this week -- will vote once I've seen it. But what I've heard sounds encouraging.

Green Hornet came out last winter, so it wouldn't even make my list.

Haven't seen Captain America yet, so I don't want to skew the results... was going to go see it tonight, ended up wandering around campus today for an hour and a half in insane heat. Shockingly enough, I feel dehydrated and like total shit now, and don't really feel like spending 2 hours at a movie. Just wanna sit at home. Hopefully I'll have time to see it this week, and Cowboys & Aliens this weekend sometime...

The rest will be watched on disc as they didn't grab me enough to spend the cash at a theater. Cap is easily my favorite movie of the year. (Since none of the awesome mods moved your thread for you, I went ahead and did so now. )

I went with Thor, but I haven't seen X-Men. But I strongly suspect X-Men would finish third behind Thor and Cap for me.

It's incredibly solid. Maybe so -- I absolutely love the time period aesthetic, look and feel of the movie. But I didn't like the previous X-Men movies. So it will be interesting to see how I like it.

First Class was a relatively uncluttered movie compared to its predecessors, which became increasingly so. Its plot hinges upon character development in a very well-written fashion.
I enjoyed all three superhero movies I saw and will make time for APES very soon! For me there's never been a summer so full of superhero goodness.

It's just got a more interesting plot than the others. Every other superhero movie this summer was "one man rises up to fulfill his true destiny". This had a little more meat to it thematically and the characters were all a bit more complex than the other heroes we saw.
It's not TDK or anything but it had the best story of the bunch and the best performances from its actors. The only flaw was its gaudy make-up and FX on the unusual mutants. The set designs and everything else was pretty solid.
For me, it's a "must buy" DVD purchase.

It sounds like something I would like, because those points address many of the things about the X franchise that I think caused me to not like it.

1. Captain America 2. Thor 3. Green Lantern 4. X-Men: First Class
No, I don't have the love for XMFC that some people do. It also doesn't fit seamlessly with the others, so why a faux prequel and not an outright reboot? I like the idea of a period piece, but if they're going to do that, then I'd rather see the original X-Men. I also thought that the film dragged a bit toward the end and probably went on a little too long. Admittedly, though, I'm not a fan of prequels and extended origin stories. I'd rather have a new story. PERIOD.
That said - there WERE things about XMFC that I did like, and it wasn't a bad movie. It might have been good enough for a dvd purchase, but I'm still mulling that over.
Oh...and as for GREEN HORNET - I thought it sucked. 'Nuff said.
CAPTAIN AMERICA and THOR both rocked (Love those Marvel studio movies.). GREEN LANTERN could have been better, but it still entertained me.
