After reading some of the earlier hit-and-miss collections of Locas stories, I recently got this book, but haven't read it yet:

Anybody have any info on how much is missing? I'm wondering whether the new collections will be worth buying if I already have the old HC.

Pretty much my entire comic collecting life, I've been intrigued by Love & Rockets by the Hernandez brothers, but I've never delved into it. Anyone here familiar with the series?

Where would be a good place for a newbie to start with that series? Is there a good primer trade?

The Music for Mechanics trade has their early stuff, but it's still some of their best stuff (IMHO). I'd start there.

I love Jaime's stuff, but don't really care for Gilbert's art.

Add me to the list of those who's always been interested by it, but never actually commited to buying one to try.

I can't speak to what's in these collections but I think Love and Rockets is great. One of my favorite comics of all time. Great cartoonists skillfully presenting long character-oriented stories. But they're quirky and whimsical -- if you don't like that kind of thing, you won't like LandR.

I didn't buy the mega-collections but I really ought to since they read better that way than in the individual issues. They read fine in the orignal 4-5 issue collections, too, which did a good job of keeping entire stories together.
