Am I the only one who found the latest issue another incoherent mess? The art was lovely and it had a few decent moments but this is like Infinite Crisis all over again.

Spoiler: show
First, the cloning of Superboy made no sense. He had all his memories but he wasn't a clone of his old self, but a redo of the original experiment with Luthor's cells. It makes no sense. Then Bart's effectiveness was stupid too. No way he should have survived against Prime. And the build up to the return of Sunboy was wasted as well. It should have been more dramatic. And if he fried him with Red Sun radiation, it should have been all over. And for Prime, one of the most annoying villains ever, being the Time Trapper, that was too dumb to believe. I DID like the Polar Boy scenes.

Which was worse?

Spoiler: show
Superboy Prime as the Time Trapper, or Cosmic Boy as the Time Trapper (at the end of Zero Hour)?

FWIW, I'm happy to have both Bart and Kon-El back.

Just re-read it again. It's still a beautiful incoherent mess. I kept on hoping that

Spoiler: show
that the real Superboy was the one resurrected and he kicks Prime's ass as he is on the same Pre-Crisis level as Prime is

Still nice to see the true Legion again, though Braniac 5 was dickier than he used to be.

Just re-read this again and feel the same way. It would have been INCREDIBLE if they resurrected the REAL Superboy or even tied in to Moore's What ever happened story and brought back that Superman. Johns has so many holes in these stories, things that just are because he wants them to be. Sunboy could have fried Prime with red sun rays. I still have a way out for Superboy Prime to be redeemed. Think anti-matter and how controlled him during Infinite Crisis.

Let's just pretend Superboy-Prime never happened.Much simpler.

I wonder how Johns finished this with the keyboard that sticky.

I almost bought this trade a few times for the sweet Perez art but knew deep down to stay away.

The ending still gives me hope that maybe one day the Post Zero Hour LSH will return. But then it makes me realize that I am likely among a big minority that hopes for this so I will likely never get such a wish and this crappy book will be their last appearance.

Pre-Crisis DC could allow the occasional cross over and appearance, even long story arcs. Infinite Worlds, infinite possibilities.

Having said all that, it really is almost impossible to keep everyone happy, which is why someone needs to have a long term vision and ignore the detractors. If Steve Jobs hadn't done it at Apple when he came back, they would be out of business. He trimmed the product line immensely, pissing off a lot of people, completely changed the OS (also pissing off people) and simplified the line for all people, not just geeks. I'd like to see the Big Two do similar things. Trim the sheer annoying amount of comics coming out each month, change some formats, make it easy for anyone to pick up a book and that's just a start. Forgive my shift off topic.

Back on topic, for me the original LOS is the only one that ever worked or felt right. The only mistake was the need to age them, which was a long term mistake IMO.

I agree on the first part. I didn't mind the aging because they were a set of characters that weren't tied to the main DCU timeline. When Robin is in his mid-twenties, then you're pushing Batman ten years older... The Legion were off on their own timeline. Even with Superboy visiting, they could just pull in an older Superboy or a young Superman.

As a fan, for me personally, I liked it too. But the whole growing up with the fans concept, especially with teen heroes like Spiderman and the LOS, is not good business practices in my opinion. Long term.

Lazy writing and bad long term vision causes the need for that.

I liked that we had the Adult Legion stories, but they didn't abuse them. We had previews of what was to come... but those events didn't take place for decades. Today, if they told us that Blank Lad was destined to die in battle, I'm afraid that they'd touch on his impending doom as often as possible.

Well, it seems giant sales bumps is the chief motivator...

I never thought the COIE wrecked the LOSH as Paul Levitz and John Byrne's Pocket Universe was a good solution. It was what came after, and once Geoff Johns got his fingers in to things well.........dismemberment and death weren't far behind........

The pocket universe, while a decent story, was another stop gap solution. Agree on the death and dismemberment.
