Holy crap...it's CRAZY that this decade flew by this quickly. Remember when Y2K was our big worry?

Good times.

Oooo, can we have the "When does the decade end?" argument now? I vote for the end of 2010.

Of course, now we have to worry about the world ending in 2012, because the lay-about Mayans only made their calender go that far.

2010 is when I start saying "twenty-ten" instead of "two thousand ten."

I'm already trying to use "twenty". It would make sense that people would start using that
after this decade is over, but considering how newscasters are referring to the "two thousand
twelve Olympics in London", I don't know if we will get rid of people saying "two thousand".

Speaking of which, it looks like the "thousands" will be the name of this decade...

Waiting for the first stupid, "Culturally, the decade doesn't end until a few years into the next decade" statement.

I haven't noticed an obvious cultural swing. How would you define the double aughts?

The decade of the war on terrorism?

That's the main difference between the 90's and 00's that I see. The 90's was a lull between the Cold War and the War on Terrorism.

The music of both decades bores me. The Sopranos raised TV higher, while reality TV kept it from being great. The superhero boom of the 00's keeps me from seeing the two decades of movies in a fair light.

Yes. Terrorism and fear were indeed a cosmic shift in perception. And worse, the numbness and fatalism and resignation that came after. And the war on terrorism is an unwinnable war in the most common meaning of war. Which just adds to the frustration level.

I am out of the music loop for the most part, but there have been some bright spots that have penetrated even my denseness.

I did enjoy the world music of the '90s, though.

Agree totally about the reality shows. Bleh. The only reason we still have cable is because of HBO and other cable channels.

Frisco has been doing a pretty good job catching me up on the '80s, so I am ready!

This decade just whizzed by - I remember New Year's Eve 1999, how I tried to stop the clock from striking 12 midnight with all my mental powers to no avail. This decade will be remembered as the "noughties" by me, "nought" being British English for "zero". It's also the decade when chart music made an impression on me again. 2008 could be the best year for singles this decade!

I'm looking forward to the next decade. Actually, thanks mostly to people like Chris Evil, Uncle Twitchy and others online, I have discovered a lot of older music from the 1980's and 1970's. I really think the '70s are great. There's cheesy pop and one hit wonders. And Abba! Also classic rock like Yes, so that is becoming my fav decade. The 1990's are to me mostly justified by Alanis Morissette's great Cd's and some other bands like Radiohead. It's great catching up with some of the artists from the '90s that I was too young to understand or appreciate the first time around. As for right now...I still like Alanis, though her newest Cd wasn't her best and really kinda flopped.
 :o

Coldplay's ok, I guess... I like Green Day, Chantel Craviazuk, Avril Lavigne and a lot of one hit or 2 hit wonders. But there are lot's of bands I'm just finding out about after the fact. Like Pulp, and XTC that UT turned me on to.
:ohyes:

I think the next decade will be interesting for music. I hope to make some of my own. I write songs already and I'd love to record some of them, or have them recorded by artists. :ohyes:
