I installed this new water heater in my home today. Just a few years ago, I never would have thought I could do a job like this on my own, but I've done enough plumbing and electrical work at my job over the past year that I decided to give it a shot. I've triple-checked every connection; no leaks. Plus, all three kids have already had a hot shower tonight. Attachment: IMG_1341.JPG

Pretty cool. If you can do stuff like that for yourself, you can save some major do-re-me.

That's great work, Kevin.
I've become a born-again handy man over the last few years, and found it really daunting. I'm not naturally inclined to doing handyman stuff, and I'm still paranoid about getting it wrong, but it's a huge confidence boost when you can do that kind of thing and make it work out how it's supposed to!
Congrats!

Minor?
If I'd tried it, it would involve fire, water, a call to the FD, and hospitals.

Very nice!
A couple of years ago mine was on its last legs. Going through Home Depot one weekend and the wife says we should get a new one and change it out. I, brilliantly, decide to get a bigger one. It's not as tall, but wider than the old one which, of course, I didn't bother to measure. So, and you know how this ends, I swap it out in an afternoon and I can't close the door. I take the door off the hinges and lean it against the opening..... and there it sits today. Problem solved!

Better have a hot shower with the wife. It's the only way to be sure.

Thanks for the congrats, everyone. I almost bought a larger one, Jim, but luckily I realized I couldn't get it through the doorway!

I'll echo everyone's sentiment here and say that I admire anyone with handyman ability and a water heater seems like no simple installation so kudos! I can do minor electrical but I detest plumbing work.

We just had a hot water heater at the library replaced for close to that (There goes about a quarter of this year's building repair budget in the very first week!). Some years back the heater in Mom and Dad's house went out while I was in town for a visit and I found myself conscripted as Dad's assistant. It's a pretty big job. Kevin ought to be proud!

I'm considering getting a tank-less water heater system in my home, precisely it gives me an excuse to not undertake exactly what you just did. Kudos to you.

Remember how I mentioned this thread was encouraging? Well, when we moved into this apartment we noticed the fridge door was opening up the wrong direction. It made life a pain in the ass due to the inconvenience. Today, home suck from work, I finally looked at the fridge and stepped up to the task. Took a while, but now it is done. Woot!
