New pop-science show on Discovery called Time Warp.
The entire concept is filming cool shit with high-speed cameras and doing a lot of super-cool super-slow-mo replays of it. It's amazing the weird contortions the human body makes when breaking bricks or getting hit by a stick... or watching a grease fire happen or watching dry ice bombs blowing up water tanks.
Highly recommended.

Whoa! They're doing soap bubbles.
They blew up a big bubble and threw a ball bearing through it. You can see bubble disintegrating on impact and just barely manages to beat the ball bearing to the other side.

So far, they've managed to resist doing the Time Warp in super slo-mo.
But they do have Hot Chicks breathing fire.

It sounded like a cool idea, but the show I saw last week didn't impress me.

It all depends on what they're filming. Seems like about half of what they film is really cool. It would probably work better as part of a Brainiac Science Abuse show as a weekly bit and not the entire point of the show.
It's still freakin' cool though.

I hate that song, but that was a mildly clever bit of Trek-related editing.

Whoa! The lastest episode had a guy sticking his finger into buzz saw... to demonstrate a smart saw blade that can tell the difference between a board and a finger.
It didn't even draw blood.
It completely fucks the blade (which costs $60 a pop), but that sounds like it's well worth the extra cost.

There's conductive sensors in the blade tips. Wood isn't conductive, flesh is.

I've been underwhelmed by this show. Every time stuff starts to look really interesting, it's not nearly as interesting at it seemed. Some stuff is cool tho...

Yeah, it's all over the place, but there's usually one really cool bit in each episode. Sadly, some of the cool stuff they film turns out to be less cool at slow speed, such as juggling chainsaws. While it might be interesting to see the blade slowly spinning around, it doesn't really add anything new to experience. While, oddly enough, watching how a yo-yo works was fascinating. I usually watch it while surfing the internet. It's easy enough to rewind a bit to catch something really cool.

The saw blade bit was cool, but since most people wear gloves while working in the shop, it still needs a bit of fine tuning.
The bit about the physics of break dancing was interesting, too.

Huh. I never wear gloves while working with my table saw, lathe, or drill press. And I don't recall that my shop teacher or Norm Abrams ever did. Did I just not notice this new fashion trend in the shop?
