Going to see Quantum tonight at midnight.

Rotten Tomatoes says critics have it at 70%. The consensus is-- "Brutal and breathless, Quantum Of Solace delivers tender emotions along with frenetic action. Not as good as franchise reboot Casino Royale, but still an impressive entry to the Bond canon." At the moment, it would go between You Only Live Twice and the two Dalton pictures.

Here's the Bond films ranked by the "Tomatometer"--
Quote:
What Sherlock Holmes is to fiction, James Bond is to cinema: its definitive and most enduring archetype. Times may change, but 007's aura remains fixed in the public consciousness; he's cool, suave, hyper-competent, and ultimately a force for good in a perilous world. If the 23 films listed below (21 official and two non-EON productions) are uneven in quality, and if their plots can sometimes run together, there's little doubt that the Bond movies have exerted a profound influence on popular culture. Without further ado, here is every James Bond film ranked in ascending order by Tomatometer.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/quantum ... _countdown

23. Casino Royale (1967)- 29%
22. A View to a Kill - 39%
21. Octopussy - 48%
20. Man with the Golden Gun - 50%
19. World is Not Enough - 52%
18. Tomorrow Never Dies - 56%
17. Die Another Day - 60%
16. Moonraker - 62%
15 & 14. Never Say Never Again & Live and Let Die- 63%
13. Diamonds Are Forever - 66%
12. You Only Live Twice - 69%
11 & 10. Licence to Kill & The Living Daylights - 72%
9. For Your Eyes Only - 74%
8. Goldeneye - 79%
7 & 6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service & The Spy Who Loved Me - 81%
5. Thunderball - 90%
4. Casino Royale - 94%
3. Goldfinger - 96%
2. From Russia With Love - 97%
1. Dr. No 98%

Hey, I actually mostly agree with the top three! I think there's some flaws on the list, particularly how low some of Brosnan's have ranked, but it's a good list overall.

Live and Let Die was cringeworthy. One of the most embarrassing films ever.

Funny how the theme songs were GREAT and then all downhill from there. Now the theme songs are shite but the movies are good.

I'd put it ahead of The Spy Who Loved Me. I'd put For Your Eyes Only above them both.

And Casino Royale doesn't deserve last place. It was better than the one where Bond takes on the head of FOX Broadcasting.

It appears that the longer you're Bond, the less awesome your Bond movies are.

Dr. No is boring and least entertaining Bond movie I can remember

The James Bond Jr. cartoon is more entertaining

I'm surprised there's so many Connery films in the top ten-- some surpassing even a few of the Brosnan's. I thought you thought they were all dull.

Me too. And I LOVE me some 60s bond girls. All the ones in the top 4 drive me crazy!

As for On Her Majesty's Secret Service, I believe that if it was Connery it would ahve bee a huge success and considered one of the best Bond movies ever. Not that Lazenby was bad but it would have had more emotional resonance to me. I also thought Dalton was VERY underrated and was ruined by bad PC writing. Give him some more funny lines, a cooler villain and hot women and his movies would have rocked.

Kids today. Sheesh. Different attention spans now I guess.

You may be misunderstanding-- I like the Connery Bond films and find them to be the best of the bunch (see my personal top 16 list). However, many times int he past, Rob Steinbrenner has talking about how boring the Connery films were, so I was surprised to see he ranked them in his own personal top ten.

Rob was speaking for society when he said that about them being boring. The above list is what Rob personally enjoys.
