FYI, I just went to Best Buy and they've remastered and re-released some of the 007 flicks on Blu-Ray and DVD. Each one comes with a free movie ticket to see the new James Bond coming out next month. I went ahead and got the Casino Royale 3 disc special edition along with the From Russia With Love game on PS2.

The newest Casino Royale really impressed me. I've liked most of the films except for the last few Roger Moore films, I even liked the two Timothy Dalton Bond flicks.

I like the majority of them as well (excluding Moore); I went with From Russia, because I think it had a good handle on blending the fantasy Bond elements with the realism that works for spy movies like this.

One of the Bond films, probably Goldfinger, would be second. My vote was exactly the opposite. Goldfinger, with CR runner-up.

This may not be 100% accurate, I am working from memory. Is definitely chronological though, no mistakes there.

From Russia With Love is the best Connery Bond (just prior to Goldfinger beginning the gadget mania that steered the franchise into camp territory pretty soon) and therefore the best Bond.

"On Her Majesty's Secret Service"--for the theme music, the romance that actually means something to Bond (for once he doesn't come across as a sociopath), and that incredible night-time skiing sequence.

Casino Royale. It nudges to the top based these twin principles:
1. Is about as good as any Bond film, by any measure, regardless of era (at least in the conversation).
2. Is recent and new, and suffers no subtraction of enjoyment based on being dated or old.
Therefore wins favorite. I would truly enjoy this film as much as any of the great Connery films. Time will tell if it holds up as well.

I would probably enjoy Royale most if it had one thing-- Sean Connery. To me, Sean is 007 and everyone else just feels like an action hero who is pretending to be 007. For me, the large appeal of Bond is in Connery's performance, much like the enjoyment of James Kirk is in Bill Shatner's performance.
So, for me, the top eleven--
From Russia With Love Goldfinger Dr. No Casino Royale Goldeneye (my first Bond) On Her Majesty's Secret Service Thunderball You Only Live Twice Living Daylights Tomorrow Never Dies World is Not Enough
EDITED TO ADD THUNDERBALL

For me, it's a toss up between 'Goldfinger' and 'Casino Royale.'
