Thoughts on this movie?

As a kid, i liked it. I didn't know Tracy well, but I liked the visual style, Warran Beatty, and the cool looking villains. Even Madonna was pretty good, and a bit sexy to this 12/13 yr old.

I even bought a ticket to a midnight show that had a t-shirt that said "I was there first"

It was the first time i heard of a midnight preview-despite buying the ticket, i was not allowed to go at midnight (or was it ten?) because I had a final the next day.

I've seen it since, and it's not as good as I thought at the time. Some of the pacing seems off though the villains and the visual style are still pretty neat.

Not sure what the status is w/ that Beatty v. Disney lawsuit. Beatty apparently wants to make a sequel.

Should they do a reboot you think, new cast, new actor? Or should we just let Dick Tracy fade away, a relic of the past.

Any thoughts on the comic strip? I see it's collected now. Worth getting?

that surprises me. though there was humor, i thought it was a fairly serious movie, overall.

I liked this movie, but haven't seen it since it was on at the movies.

I was going to let Rob masturbate by himself in this thread, but since Simon chimed in...

Dick Tracy is a beautifully shot movie. Great sets, great prosthetics.

The plot stunk (as did the reveal of the villain).

But it's gorgeous to behold.

Very stylistic movie. I loved it at the time, because it was not a straight try to be perfect movie, but it wasn't pure camp like the '66 Batman (although it was campy). I agree, many parts of it don't stand up to a more critical eye that I've developed since then, but it was fun.

I liked it when I was 10. Now? Not so much.

Funny you should mention this. I ran across a dvd of the movie in a cheap bin and just watched it last week.

The verdict: Pee-YEW!!!!

I recall liking - but certainly not loving - the movie when it came out. Now, I think it just plain stinks on ice. There isn't much to the plot, and the cartoonish villains get old quickly. Sure, the film has an interesting visual style, but I found all those garish colors pretty annoying after awhile. The whole thing is played like a cartoon, and the characters are all cardboard cut-outs.

I loved it at the time, I still like it now - it's a shame that Beatty's so bland and Madonna's so unbeliveably, gut-wrenchingly, penis-shrivellingly terrible, because visually it's incredible. The make-up, production design, costumes and cinematography are just stunning. There's no other film that looks like it. Danny Elfman's score is good, too. And the cast! Wow.

I also found a cheapie copy about 6 to 8 months ago and watched it then.

It's not great, but I liked it. It was goofy fun and the visuals were neat. I don't think a sequel is neccessary; it should be a complete reboot and treated as a serious film rather than a "living comic book".

I think that it's worth another watch.

I still wish Beatty had gone with the prosthetic Tracy square nose.

When I saw Judge Dredd (which I also like, ahem), I thought Armand Assante had the perfect face for Tracy. Check out that nose.
