Here's the earliest known photo of George and Gracie together, from before George got his first toupée!

Did you know that, when they originally started to do their stand-up schtick (and before their radio and TV shows), George did the crazy-act and Gracie was the 'straight man'?

Apparently, she still got all the laughs, so they changed the routine. And the rest was history :)

I have great memories of watching reruns of the program out at my Grandparents' cabin in the late seventies - only that and 'The Two Ronnies' were worth watching on the CBC (the only station they could get at the time out there).

They should do a revival... not George and Gracie...

I am not too familiar with them together. George Burns for me was the forever old cigar smoking God playing guy who was going to live to be 100-and he did.

They sometimes show old George and Gracie shows on some of the PBS outlets.

It's funny watching those old shows, then realizing as old as they are, That George was in his 50's when he was doing them...............in the 50's!

If I'd have been born 80 years earlier, I'd be dead now.

But I'd have harbored a lifelong crush on Gracie Allen.

George was 33, Gracie was 34 when this was made (1929).

That's so sweet. It's nice to seem some film from back when the World was black and white. :ohyes:

Thanks for sharing, Linda.

There's a story that George Burns cheated on Gracie once and that he felt so guilty about it, he bought her an expensive coat or jewelry. I don't think he ever told her, but allegedly, she said to a friend that "I wish he'd cheat again so I could get something to go with this." That's a paraphrase, but I think that's the essence of it.

It gets me in trouble with certain friends of mine, but I do love the taste of lamb. And veal.

It's not my fault that I was lucky enough to be born at the top of the food chain.

Gracie Allen was cute, but that voice is one that that would get on my nerves. Heh.

Was that the way she really talked, or was she ramping up the "annoying" as part of her character? Unlike George Burns, who I got to see interviewed on TV many times later in his life, I don't think I ever saw Gracie Allen in a situation where she was out of character.

Yes, that's what Gracie really sounded like. Only not dumb. :) Watch this video to see the out-of-character Gracie near the end. (And there's some classic Steve Allen humour during the game which I'm sure James T. will get a kick out of.)

Radio Classics on Sirius satellite radio plays Burns and Allen from time to time as well as Jack Benny...you just can't beat genuinely funny, clean comedy that doesn't rely on dumb sight gags for humor...
