...on a back-issue comic book and a TPB/hardcover collection?
For me, spending more than $7 on a back-issue is rare, and even $10 is pushing it, but I did plunk down $25 once for the Amazing Spider-Man with the first appearance of the Hobgoblin.
For collections, my current "record" is $75 for both the Absolute New Frontier and Absolute The Long Halloween hardcovers. I would love to get the Frank Miller Daredevil omnibus and upgrade to the Absolute Sandman books someday, but I can't see myself ever paying the full $100 price.
And to think, a decade back, I got nervous in the store at the thought of shelling out "just" $40 for From Hell! I'd never spent that much money on ANY book, let alone on comics.

Go with AmazWAN. I was just looking at the prices of all of those. Absolute Sandman vol 1 was $62.37. Though Vol 2 was $121.50. I found another retailer online who had it for $75 and had copies in stock.
I literally just finished as I was plazing a big order and debated on throwing one of those in. Run man. For damn sake RUN!

Years ago - and bearing in mind the US to Aussie exchange rate - I paid $25.00 for Howard the Duck #2. I felt like an idiot, but I wanted so much to complete the collection (although I never did manage to get issue #1). That's the most I've ever paid for any comic.
Last year, I was really tempted to pay fifty bucks for an immaculate copy of "Not Brand Eeech!" (the King Kong one), but thought better of it.

The longest series I've been able to collect in its entirety (solely in original issues, without filling in gaps via trade) is the 40 issues of Gotham Central. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to complete my Batman and Detective runs without help

$75 for the JLA/Avengers Absolute Edition - mainly because I really wanted the material from the aborted 80's version included as an extra. That's the most I have spent by far - next would be $34 for The Comic Art of Frank Frazetta, which just arrived in the mail yesterday, woo!

I think I've spent as much as $10 for a back issue before.
Don't own any hardcover comics.

I spent about $10.00 on a copy of Uncanny X-Men #127, to place the one y sister ripped up to piss me off. Hardcover collections, around $60.00 for a couple Absolute Editions I have.

I think I spent roughly $50 for my Watchmen Absolute Edition. As for a back issue. I paid $30 recently for a copy of Tales of Suspense #57. First appearance of Hawkeye. I kinda needed that one.

Christ, $40 in 1983 must be like $100 today, no? Fo me, I purchased a copy of Superman 174 fior about $20 and it's probably the last time I'll do it unelss some sort of incredible deal comes up. I just wanted a really classic silver age Superman comic. I ordinarily wouldn't go past $5 and it's rare when I even spend that much. For a trade, I bought Absolute Watchmen for $60 and in retrospect, it wasn't really worth it. I didn't get more enjoyment from that than I do the regular sized trade. And I passed up a Capt. America DVD-Rom to ge tit and now that's worth well over $100.

Aside from plunking down $60+ on a few Marvel Omnibuses and around $50 per for some DC Absolutes, the most I've ever spent on a back issue is the issue of Batman where Jason Todd first appears in the Robin costume. I paid around $25 or so for it in the mid-90s. Then I read it and today keep it unbagged and unboarded with all the rest of the comics I didn't dump last year.

Either on my All-Flash comic or Absolute Sandman. Not sure which cost more.

$100 for the first collected edition of Crisis on Infinite Earths - hardcover, slipcased, with a page misprinted, and the wraparound painting dustjacket by Alex Ross. At the time, they said that it would not be available in paperback for at least the next 5 years, but the paperback wound up coming out about 9 months later.
Total waste.

Total waste. I remember the uproar over that. Pretty low on DC's part, especially since they seemed to be backpatting themselves for taking care of the fans by giving in and releasing a paperback version so soon.
