(er....that means I like ELO, too, even though they were well gone by the time I hit high school.)

I have lots of ELO CDs and records. They were great ones for cool colored vinyl pressings.

They did a lot of cool songs and videos. I loved listening to their music.

I agree with everyone, great band.

I discovered them on The Midnight Special, January 17th, 1975. I'd liked their version of Roll Over Beethoven on the radio, but got hooked when I saw them perform Can't Get it Out of my Head.

ELO is/was pretty great. Jeff Lynne later became The Man Who Wanted to Be a Beatle so bad it made him cry.

He replaced George Martin.

One of my most hated bands back in the day. Looking back they were not that bad really.

"Stood in the same spot as George Martin did" is not the same as replacing George Martin.

In all seriousness, the stuff he produced on all sounded the same (to me). The beauty of the Beatles under GM was that the music sounded different from song to song.

One of my favorite groups.
Found a 2 CD Best Of collection used for 5 bucks a couple of years ago. Best deal I got in a long time.

I need to quantify what I said a bit. I took a look at Wikipedia.

ELO was my irrationally favorite band in the 70's. I had the albums I could afford and quite often theirs were the songs I would scan the radio stations for. Middle of the night, headphones on, light out, my mind free to wander to the music.

Having said that, I wasn't fond of the Lynne Produced George Harrisson projects. As I said, it all had the same sound to me.

The album Flaming Pie, which was mostly produced by Jeff Lynne, is a favorite of mine. But favorite track of the album was Beautiful Night, produced by George Martin and guess starring Ringo.

The first Traveling WIlbury's album was awesome. The second album (third?), without Orbison, was not as tightly put together.

I still think there's a distictive difference between what George Martin produced and what Jeff Lynne sat behind the console for.
