Vogel becomes only the third person to voice the iconic character; his appointment made national headlines when the former actor, longtime puppeteer Steve Whitmire, had a bitter break with Disney.

This seems impossible to me. Whitmire voiced all Kermit appearances since Henson passed away? Damn.

It's inaccurate, actually. In 2009 a guy named Artie Esposito was designated Kermit understudy, and he did a few Kermit appearances over the past seven years (appearances on the MTV Video Awards and America's Got Talent, among others). Presumably these were things Whitmire refused to do, which was part of what contributed to his firing. Esposito doesn't appear to have been considered for the permanent job, and if you listen to his work on YouTube he's clearly not as good as Vogel.

I wish they'd put the old Muppet Show on DVD finally.

And that 2016 ABC one, actually. I thought it was pretty good.

Yes, it was.

Time/Life did some Muppet Show DVDs, and then the first 3 seasons were issues separately.

Never been any release of Muppets Tonight on home video, either.

True, Muppets Tonight needs to come out as well.

I have those first three seasons on DVD, but I'd really like a nice complete box set. I mean if "Fraggle Rock" can get a deluxe box set release, surely The Muppet Show can.

I loved the 2016 show.I thought it was a great use of what is currently on TV blended with The Muppets. But maybe, if they want to stick to genres in the public conscious, while remaining true to their roots, they should setup a new show to be like America's Got Talents. It would be an easy way to use the variety show for zaney Muppet acts. Kermit could host. Piggie, Fozzie, and Gonzo could judge. And you could create a season wide story to follow certain acts.

For the win!

I think your idea might go a little something like this:

I think they should Xerox copy the format of the original show. Only thing that would change is the celebrity guests and the production values.

I thought that was the original show? They'd have to be babies first.
