Here's the latest from Associated Press. Guess no more "Blade" movies for awhile.

OCALA, Fla. - A federal judge has sentenced action star Wesley Snipes to the maximum three-year sentence on tax charges.

Prosecutors had requested three years, one year for each of Snipes' convictions of willfully failing to file a tax return.

Snipes' lawyers offered three dozen letters from family members, friends and even fellow actors Woody Harrelson and Denzel Washington attesting to his good character. They argued he should get only probation, because all three convictions were misdemeanors and the actor had no previous criminal record.

The fact that at one point he fled the country to avoid prosecution probably didn't help his case.

This case is proof that it IS possible to be convicted for stupidity. If I was him, I would have tried to cut some deal to pay back (at least SOME) of the taxes I owed and showed some remorse. Wesley Snipes seemed to honestly believe that he didn't have to pay taxes like the rest of us...

What's important here is that it the felony charge was dropped. Failure to pay taxes is not a felony. That's huge.

I predict Snipes will be a very sought-after actor once he does serve his (6 months max I tell you) sentence. He'll be offered roles by his friends to help pay off his 5 million in fines and his back taxes as well. This could turn out to be a majorly good thing for him... provided nothing goes wrong in prison.

Hey, I don't say this with anything other than optimism. I don't blame him for not wanting to pay taxes, given the archaic and unfair tax code in this country. But still, he did break the law and for that there should be some repercussion.

He only paid right before sentencing and only $5 million which the government says is a drop in the bucket since he hasn't filed taxes since 1998.
