Apparently this is happening, with The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone splitting up King's mammoth novel into four seperate movies.

Now, the first official casting has happened:

http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/11/m ... the-stand/

Quote:
True story: Earlier this summer, I randomly suggested on Facebook that Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey ought to play the one and only Randall Flagg; that is, if the producers could ever get the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand off the ground. A month later, rumors started percolating that McConaughey was being sought out for an unspecified role in the film. Now, as The Guardian reports, the Interstellar star has agreed to play the villain in Josh Boone’s forthcoming four-part adaptation of King’s legendary 1978 novel.

This is one of my favorite novels, and the casting here is a good start.

It wasn't adapted properly the first time....although I'm not sure how to justify 4 movies. 3 seems a more natural fit, as the book is broken into three parts.

It's actually broken in three parts, it's just that there are 2 movies of the last one.

Well, yeah, but hopefully, that will motivate them to cast it correctly....so far, so good.

McConnaughy has been a revelation over the past few years. I'll watch him in anything these days. And The Stand is a favourite of mine...my first experience of King when I was fifteen. What a start!

I have hope for this. Do you think they can fix King's ending?

I've always liked the TV version.
Seems like every time I ended up in the hospital, it would be on SyFy, and I'd have something to watch for the entire day!

It's a time-waster for sure. I'm actually rewatching it right now. It's not terrible....dated TV production values and music, but I really enjoy about half the cast...Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, Rob Lowe, Ray Walston, Kathy Bates, etc...but some of the actors, lines, and "Kingisms" ("Come and eat chicken with me, beautiful, down here IN THE DARK!") are just awful. The less said about Mick Garris, the better.

Chris Nolan would have been good for an adaptation, I think. I was hoping the prominent placement of the book in "Interstellar" was a hint that he was going to do it, but ah well....

I enjoyed the mini series quite a bit, but I would be happy to see another version.I like some of Duke's casting choices. Dunno how likely they'd be to get them all but that would be a cool movie to see.
