This new land speed record attempt vehicle has something of a Batmobilish look to it:

http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol/li ... 214784.ece

And get this--the land speed record it's trying to break is for steam-powered vehicles! The team is hoping to beat the 1906 record of 128 miles per hour. Hard to believe people were already going that fast over a hundred years ago.

Looks spiffy! And I never use the word "spiffy" lightly.

Prior to 1906, the previous record holder was the team of Brown & Eastwood in 1885, when they reportedly achieved speeds in excess of 87mph.

Unfortunately, none of their records could not be corroborated, as the engine was destroyed and both men supposedly killed when the train flew off the unfinished bridge near Clayton Shonash Ravine.

So tragic. But, they did steal the train, so perhaps it was just deserts.

I believe your data are incorrect. They only reached a speed of 87 KILOMETERS per hour.

All they needed was to generate 1.21 gigwatts of steam power.
