They left it open for movies.

If you'd told me the finale was going to end with
Spoiler: show
Meadow parking a car
I'd have said you were nuts. If they had ended the series with last week's episode I would have been happier. I did like
Spoiler: show
Paulie and the cat
though. That was amusing.

Sopranos finale=Much ado about nothing

Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

The last three seasons of Sopranos was all build up with no payoff. Why should the series finale be any different?

I half-guessed where the series was heading after the first season. It just had that smell about it... that they would over-stay their welcome and not have any sort of satisfying conclusion. Never made it past the second season, which really confirmed my fears that they would spend a large chunk of their time spinning their wheels.

It wasn't entertainment. It was David Chase showing us how far he could manipulate us. A big "fuck you" to everyone that paid for HBO and bought the DVD's.

And he edited it so that you'd think you'd lost your cable feed.

Ooooooooh clever.

I'd say that he put the toys back into the box, but the toys never left the box.

People seem to hate it. But the media is giving it good reviews, so far.

One theory which seems popular on the talkbacks (not mine since I don't watch the show)-

what i heard someone suggest is that the ending we saw was through tony's eyes.. He sees his daughter walk in and he blacks out.. meaning he got shot and killed. because his son and wife were facing the other way but tony was facing the door and he saw his daughter walk in and.. black.. From his eyes.. thats what he saw. (maybe).

Thats it, Tony get's whacked, that's why the screen goes black, you see meadow coming in to the dinner thru Tony's eyes, that was the last thing Tony sees before he dies,

Tony is dead you boobs. It could not have been more clear. You saw Tony's death from his own perspective. "I bet you don't even hear it coming"

But think about it... Tony looks up and sees Meadow amd everything goes black for several seconds... HE WAS KILLED! If you get two in the back of the head it just goes black.

As soon as I saw it I knew Tony was dead and his family and everyone else was left to figure out how to carry on.

I also knew that morons who never understood this show would start complaining.

The "you never hear it coming" message is not just a reference back to his conversation with Bobby earlier in the year, it also references Goodfellas.

Good for you, nice imagination... but again your opinion, since officially there was NO ENDING!!!!! HEVERYONE CANCEL HBO, IVE HAD IT

Oh and if you all think Tony died, who shot him? one of the innocent people sitting down eating?...there was nobody in the place that would have killed him

I love hearing all these people who are "LOYAL" fans complain about the finale. If you were really "LOYAL" you'd know that every line in the script, every person in the background, every eye movement means SOMETHING. Made in America was the title of the episode and a guy in the diner was wearing a USA hat. They even made it really easy for those of you who are idiots by offering a flash back "you don't even hear it coming." I thought you "LOYAL" fans were smarter than that.

I guess you've never seen The Godfather. The guy who went into the bathroom at the last minute was a clear reference to the restaurant scene where Michael gets the gun from behind the toilet.

My HD DVR from Dish has been flaking out now and then recently, where it would periodically go dark with no audio/video for 5-10 seconds. I spent last night angry over the fact that I had missed the final seconds of the Sopranos.

Now I find out everybody missed out. What a crappy ending.

It's clear that the guy in the diner was supposed to make the audience and Tony feel threatened. The shot of him going to the bathroom evokes the Godfather. He keeps glancing at Tony's table, and Tony keeps glancing at him. It could be misdirection, and the guy was a fed sent to secure the place before the rest of the G-men come in and arrest him.

But who the fuck cares? It's like the last couple of pages missing from the end of a book you've enjoyed reading for seven years.

What crap.

I guess I'm the only one here who liked it. :P

Some of the best scenes in the series have left room for the imagination. It reminded me of that scene a few years ago where a guy who refused to pay money back to Artie that came from Tony. He opens the door and there's Furio standing in front of him - end of scene. You know what happened. To me, there's no doubt that at the point that the screen goes black in the last episode, the guy from the restroom comes out guns blazing. You don't know who all died, but you do know it's the end of Tony Soprano. I don't think it would have made it any better to actually see him and possibly his family getting gunned down.

I seriously doubt that there'll be any movies that pickup the story from here with Tony alive. But if there are, forget what I said above - the ending sucked.

Okay, call me crazy, but I see two possible interpretations of the ending, and I think I'm okay with either one.

The first one is the theory floated above that Tony was killed and the last thing we see is the last thing he sees. I could live with that.

The second one is one I've been rolling around in my mind for the last several hours, which is that this is what it's always going to be like for them now. They're going to go to diners and eat onion rings and try to fit in, but Tony, especially, is always going to be wondering what's around the corner. He'll be suspicious of that guy in the hat, and he'll be suspicious of the two guys walking in ahead of Meadow, and this is how it's always going to be.

When it ended last night I thought, "you've GOT to be kidding me with that shit," but now? I don't know. Maybe it's not so awful after all.

If you have to work this hard to make an ending make sense, it sucked.

Once in a while, and it's a very rare while, James says something that is pure genius.

This isn't one of those times.

But it's close.

Point well made.
