I think those were the Archie cartoons I used to watch when I got home from school. They were syndicated repeats and I had to work very hard to adjust our external antennae to pick them up. Same for the 1960's Batman episodes.
In fact, with all the difficulty I was having with the antennae, I'm not entirely certain that I wasn't picking them up from a delayed broadcast from the 1960s.

Yeah, the Jackson 5 doing musical interludes? That's just stupid.

I hope they don't do the 1990s "Archies". That show was awful!

Oh, and the Groovie Goolies cartoon, which had in turn spun off from Sabrina, got the complete-series-on-DVD treatment on October 24, 2006 ... [bigred]Groovie Goolies: The Saturday "Mourning" Collection[/bigred] [title]Groovie Goolies: Saturday Mourning Collection[/title] is a sprightly anthology of episodes from Filmation’s 1970 Groovie Goolie cartoon series, a kind of kooky-spooky cousin to Filmation’s other hit program, The Archies. A fascinating reflection of different strains in pop entertainment at the time, Groovie Goolies is thick with rapid-fire puns and blackout gags akin to Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, sugary tunes a la The Archies, and nostalgia for those monster team-up films once made by Universal (House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula). The basic idea is that relatively friendly variations on the best-known film fiends—Frankenstein’s monster, the Wolfman, Dracula, Vampira, the Mummy, etc.—all hang out together in Horrible Hall, getting into wacky scrapes and banging out happy hits as a band. Tall, green, stooped, and ominous, Frankie is a lovable klutz with a voice like Boris Karloff and a thing for birdwatching and exercise. Hirsute Wolfie is a beatnik werewolf, Count Drac is a somewhat cranky vampire with a gift for wordplay ("This place is driving me batty!"), and Bella La Ghostly is a scary siren in a tight, tight dress. Somehow, in the middle of all this, a familiar face from another cartoon (and comic book) appears on occasion: the comely Sabrina, the teenage witch. Episodes include "When I Grow Up," in which Drac, Wolfie, and Frankie visit Drac’s "game room" (actually an old-fashioned dungeon); "Feed the Ghost Some Garlic," about a baseball game that dissolves (like a lot of athletic endeavors on this show) into pure nuttiness; "Darlin' Darlin'," in which Frankie and Wolfie try (with wacky results) to help Drac when he’s having trouble turning into a bat; and "Goolie Swing," which introduces viewers to Drac's art collection (including the "Moaning Lisa" and a self-portrait by Vincent Van Gool). Shamelessly silly. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ILYYD0/?tag=imwan-20

Another Archie Comics title, Josie And The Pussycats, had a couple of cartoon series in the 1970s. Here's the complete first series, which came out on DVD on September 18, 2007 ... [bigred]Josie And The Pussycats: The Complete Series[/bigred] Centered on a girl band with a knack for ending up in the middle of a mystery, [title]Josie and the Pussycats[/title] is a 1970 Saturday Hanna-Barbera television cartoon series featuring Josie, a character conceived and drawn by "Archie" Comic legend Dan DeCarlo, his complete 16-episode series features band members Josie, Melody, and Valerie and their entourage Alan, Alexander, Alexandra, and cat Sebastian as they travel the world from one gig to another. Like the Scooby-Doo gang, Josie and her friends invariably find themselves involved in some kind of mystery at every stop. Whether it's saving a fleet of ships from a captain set on avenging his great grandfather, investigating alien invaders with an insatiable hunger for diamonds, or stopping a crazed scientist from controlling the world's weather with a nuclear powered weather machine, lead singer Josie, clever Valerie, and ditzy Melody can be counted upon to combine forces with Josie's boyfriend Alan, the cowardly Alexander, the self-absorbed and scheming Alexandra, and the snickering cat Sebastian to investigate and solve the mystery just in time to don their leopard leotards and deliver a great show. Josie and the Pussycats features the groovy music of a brief-lived 1970 girl pop band of the same name throughout the chase scenes of each show and has the honor of being the first cartoon series to regularly feature a black character (though it beat The Harlem Globetrotters by only half an hour). An interesting 22-minute bonus profile of Dan DeCarlo features extensive interviews with great Marvel cartoonist Stan Lee (Spiderman, Fantastic Four), writer Mark Evanier, cartoonist Scott Shaw, "Archie" chairman and publisher Michael Silberkleit, writer and producer Paul Dini, and a host of others who touch upon everything from this master cartoonist's real-life inspiration for Josie to his influence on future cartoonists and animators, sense of humor, and very distinctive style.http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000RPD0DM/?tag=imwan-20

I used to wake up extra early on school days for Groovie Goolies. I'm very much afraid it won't hold up.

Wow, nice find - US of Archie was just a dim memory to me, I must have been 4 or 5 when it was on...
Here's what IMDB has to say:
In the early 1970s, the Archies were very popular in cartoon form and the Bicentennial was approaching. The producers of the Archie show decided to create a spin-off in which the gang re-enacted various key moments in American history through fantasy (things like the invention of the telephone, women being allowed to vote, the Underground Railroad)adding their own stylings to each moment. The intention was noble enough but the end result was awful. This cartoon stripped the Archies of their music and comedy. They came across as little different than characters you might see in an educational short shown at a local school. I can still recall the opening which featured a parade in which Jughead (playing the drum) marched along with Archie (holding the flag) and Reggie (playing the flute) while fireworks went off. Needless to say, kiddie viewers stayed away in droves and the cartoon soon found itself playing on Sunday mornings instead. Fortunately, the producers soon saw the error of their ways and returned the Archies to their proper time period. The message: that Saturday morning cartoons and educational content do not go hand in hand, as any five year old will tell you.

It was followed up with ARCHIE'S FUNNIES featuring animated versions of comic strips from the 1930s. I preferred the straight ARCHIE cartoons as well as JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS on earth!

Back on the old ICE board, we had an Archies thread that went on for several weeks, based on the conceit that they were real people in a real rock band. There was some hilarious stuff in there--along the lines of Spinal Tap and the Rutles--I wish I'd archived the whole thing, but it's now lost to history.

Pretty sure Archie's TV Funnies was prior to the US of Archie. Watch this while I check ... [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKbJQcpbt_A[/youtube] Yep: Wikipedia wrote: The Archie Show (1968) Archie and His New Friends (TV special; 1969) The Archie Comedy Hour (1969) (repeats of The Archie Show plus Sabrina the Teenage Witch) Archie's Funhouse (1970) (live action/animated hybrid) Archie's TV Funnies (1971) Everything's Archie (1973) (repeats of previously released material) U.S. of Archie (1974) The New Archie and Sabrina Hour (1977) (new Archie and Sabrina episodes, later repeated on The Family Channel in a half-hour format as The Archie/Sabrina Surprise Package; this is the version that is offered by Entertainment Rights) I can't remember the New Archie/Sabrina Hour at the end of the list there ... maybe I just wasn't watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore at that point.

"Pussycats" trivia: one of the singing voices was provided by Cheryl Ladd, credited under the name of Cherie Moor.
