Ill be going to the big TO con this weekend - should be fun. It will be my first big CON..i also want to head to Wizard World Boston this fall.

Lots of big names...Im excited for the Warren Ellis Q&A - he's one of my favorite writers.

Plus I get an SBC press pass...woohoo membership has it privileges.

Ill be doing my best to get the inside scoop on upcoming projects and some juicy rumors...cant wait!

I also hope to score a few interviews for the next few weeks...!!!

Anyone else going?

I'm planning on going shoppin. The concept of standing in line for hours to meet talent doesn't really appeal, so I'll just duck in and spend oodles of cash on cheap back issues that no one else really cares about - Kirby Thor, Dillin JLA, Charlton. It's so cool collecting titles and back issues that aren't on every fanboy's gotta have list.

Small reminder, the friggin thing's on the exhibition grounds, and not at the Convention Centre.

Didn't know about this Con. I'm about a six hour drive from Toronto, so I COULD attend it.

Unfortunately, though, I won't - at least not this time. I have plans to be in Wisconsin this weekend.

I was in Toronto last fall, and I went comic shopping. I quickly learned that it doesn't pay for Americans to buy new comics in Canada. Even with the exchange rate, the cover prices are steep. I did find some good deals on back issues, though.

There's also a pulp magazine festival this weekend in Toronto around College/Spadina - $2.00 to get in.

College & Spadina... it's a trap, I tells ya.

And, I'm back. It took me all afternoon, but I think I got me some bargains. And in honour of mirror weekend 2 at IMWAN, allow quick reviews:

I spent entirely too much cash on the following:
22 Thor's - 159 -179, plus Annual number 1. Unrealistic art by Jack the Hack Kirby, and it's gonna take me all friggin day to read them. <sigh>
John's JSA 16-22, completing my run of that title. They were entirely too hard to find.
A Dame To Kill For - TPB - Sin City Volume 2, or How I Spent my Summer Vacation by that psychotic Frank Miller
5 Charlton Thunderbolts - I've got the Beetle's, so I'll check out the rest of their superhero line.
4 Charlton Captain Atoms
Strange Suspense Stories 75 - A dang near 40 year old reprint.

As mentioned, I wasn't interested in meeting the talent, or getting books signed - especially with the fan boy crush crowd there for JMS (!), Ellis, and Bendis - although I don't know if they were all there. After buying CA 83, though, I was really tempted to have Phil Jiminez sign it, just to prove a point. At the end, it wasn't worth my time.

Overall, it wasn't that crowded, and some of the dealers, while having traveled a great distance, were charging way more than I thought some of their books were worth. The reason I only got the 4 Capt. Atom's - I saw others - was that I could buy the 20 Thor's, or 3 more Captain Atom's. $60 a pop for Charlton books is just plain excessive.

I'll do the one in the fall as well, after seeing what holes I can fill through other means.

Jason

Just got back..I had a BLAST!!

It was my first big CON..wow lots of fun. Tracked down some comics I wanted..including Marvel Team up 51...the poker game issues..with art by a young Frank Miller..sweet!

Attended the Warren Ellis Q&A - Ellis is my favorite writer so it was a real treat for me....he had some really cool stories to tell and even answered a few of my questions!!

Adi Granov gave me an Iron man sketch in exchange for a donation to ACTOR..very cool dude.

Went to the Bendis Q&A - again a very nice guy...we talked about some of his crime comics after...very genuinly nice guy who appreciates his fans.

Phil Jimenez was also very cool...he gave me issues 1 and 2 of his new Vertigo series Otherworld..said we'd do an interview soon..cool!

I have a few scoops..Ill be updating ATR later this week with some juicy stuff and have a bunch of interviews lined up...lots of people recognized my name from the site...so much fun!!!
