Best of Both Worlds had probably my favorite cliffhanger ever.

It wasn't the end of the season, but I loved the episode of Lost that ended with Sawyer et al attempting to rescue Jack from the others, only to find him happily playing football with them. Great WTF moment. "We have to go baaaaack" was a great Lost season ender too.

Beginning with the TNG Season Three finale (which was "The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1"), Star Trek shows usually ended their seasons with a major cliffhanger.

What was The Expanse?

I really loved the the Season 4 Next Gen cliffhanger, with the return of (SPOILERS!) All the Klingon civil war stuff on Next Gen was really fun, I thought.

Spoiler: show
"The Expanse" was the ST: ENT second season cliffhanger where the whole series changed (and for the better). Aliens called the Xindi send a probe to Earth that kills 7 million people. The NX-01 is recalled back to Earth, refitted as a warship and trades in most of its science personnel for marines. The new ship is then sent on a search-and-destroy mission into an area of space called the Delphic Expanse, which is where the Xindi are. The Expanse is a mysterious area of space with a lot of superstitious history and evidence of weirdness... kind of like the Bermuda Zone (or "Bermuda Triangle"). The last scene in the episode is the NX-01 moving through the cloud barrier surrounding the Expanse into whatever lies beyond it. Great cliffhanger.

And, yeah, I remember the TNG Season 4 cliffhanger. I remember seeing that final shot of the episode and thinking "Wow, they out did last season's cliffhanger!"
