Two weeks worth of books:
Last weeks books:
Conan #15 - Have I said lately how much I love this book.
Black Panther #3 - Romita Jr. and Janson, how can I say no.
Ultimate X-Men #58 - A stand alone story, are they sure this isn't a fill-in?
Ultimates 2 #5 - 5 issues in 5 months, shame it's going to be late eventually.
This weeks books:
JLA Classified #6 - I.C.B.I.N.T.J.L. (3 of 6)
Space Ghost #6 - Last issue for now(hopefully).
Superman #215 - For Tomorrow Pt. 12.
Uncanny X-Men #458 - Claremont and Davis, Pt. 4 of 5.
Wolverine #27 - See Black Panther.
Dropped this week:
Amazing Spider-man

Modesty Blaise rocks - Hey Diddy, you think your superiors will follow up that crappy MB straight to video offering from a couple years ago with something more substantial? I mean, they didn't even have Willie Garvin in it and it if they spent more than $2 mil on the entire thing I'd wonder where the money went.

Yeah, nothing like a long drawn out 2005 version of the Molten Man story. The only reason I finished that story is because I really hate dropping in the middle of a storyline in case something actually happens. Could have been done in 2 issues. And from what I hear so far, I'm glad I didn't pick up this months' issue.

Hah! Just get a better script than "Failed Cable TV Pilot" next time. It wasn't that the film was bad, just that the whole thing was quite anemic and little that we hadn't seen before story-wise. Did I mention there was no Willie Garvin??

Wolverine 27: Die hard with Wolverine in the title role as he takes downa legion of villains aboard a sheild helicarrier...great stuff. That last page by JRJR was worth the price of admission for the whole book...10/10
Runaways 3: great dialogue and laugh out loud one liners. Lots of cool action and what a great cliffhagner...I wonder if those items on the desk are clues as to the villains identity...great book...10/10
Manhunter 9: lots of action...Manhunter vs Merlyn (I like this guy), Monocle and Phobia...this book gets better and better...Andreyko is ramping up the action and suspense...9/10
Omac Project #1 - quite good...I love espionage and double dealing..plus I like how the JLA, WW and Batman will all feature prominently in this...cool stuff so far...8/10
Ex Machina 10: yet another cool cliffhagner..could BKV have given us an ongoing title where the lead hero is gay..? hmmm...pretty sneaky. My only complaint is that id have liked to have more answers in regards to the alien artifact...cool action this issue too ...9/10
7 Soldiers Klarion: great art but the story was too slow and too much magic gobbledook...i dont think Ill be following this one. I liked how the zombies were called grundys...the weakest of the 7 soldier minis..7/10
Walking Dead 18: brilliant as ever..and we get a roll call at the end of the issue..woo hoo..! One of the best books out there...love them zombies...10/10
Daredevil Trade 11: Golden Age - GREAT story by Bendis...he is at his best when he is doing crime fiction like DD...loved how Maleev had different art styles for the different periods...the Marvel silver age flashbacks were cool...fun action packed story and I really like the new White Tiger...great stuff...10/10

A few weeks of catching up to cover:
Hopeless Savages: the B-Sides just saw this one on the racks and picked it up. Short stories about the childhoods of a future band called "The Dusted Bunnies". While some of the art was nice, the dialogue dragged the whole story down. The writer tried to write "cool" and failed. Not gonna try anymore of these.
Incredible Hulk 80 Still enjoying the return of PAD.
Conan 15 A decent story, but this book isn't doing it for me anymore. Last issue for me.
4 17 More of the time travel arc. Nice enough story, but this is on the bubble.
JLA Classified 6 Nice to see the Justice League for the last time. Funny with Etrigan and doesn't Maguire draw the best monsters in comics?
Flaming Carrot 2 (34) BobBurdeny goodness. I need a baloney gun!
Young Avengers 3 This issue dissapointed me. I thought this series would be fun and action packed, but nothing much happens. Lots of sitting around and explaining stuff. Better luck next issue.

Worthy mentions this week:
Teen Titans 23 - well, somewhat worthy. Losing love for this series though the fight with Light was fun.
Fantastic Four - Kesel gives a great issue in the Post Waid era. Very "Comic-Book-y" which is what I want from an FF story.
Walking Dead - Very Tight!
Invincible - And again! Two Kirkman books in one week is overkill, but what the hey. A setup issue, but it didn't seem to bog down. Hopefully the threads he's laying down here will be picked up properly in the next few issues.
OMAC - Damn, it read like a Rucka book. Not a good thing. This is going to be six issues of the villains being omnipotant and omniscient and the heroes winning only if it is written in their contract. Two Shrugs and a wait and see.
Birds of Prey - Who doesn't love Ted Grant?

Two weeks worth (for me!)
Blood of the Demon #2-Only one read so far-great and gritty issue!
Thunderbolts #7-Love Grummett, Sienkiewicz is a bonus. Almost bought FF.
JLA #113-Not crazy for #112, The Owl's and Batman's personalities are getting a little to close.
Adam Strange #7
Wolverine #27-JRJR! This is a good arc. Skipping Black Panther, I didn't like the first issue's direction.

I picked up...
Runaways #3 -- Another enjoyable issue that kicked things up a notch from last issue. I was a bit confused as to why Darkhawk suddenly went psycho... is this in his history? I'm enjoying the mystery involving Victor's father as well as Excelsior's unknown benefactor. That last page didn't give me any clue as to who the father might be. Fun book. 8/10
Teen Titans #23 -- This book keeps getting better and is now worthy of being associated with the Wolfman/Perez legacy. The Dr. Light arc was phenomenal! I loved the curve ball GJ pulled regarding Speedy's special arrow. McKone's art has never looked better -- DC's loss is Marvel's gain I guess. The ending of the tale was especially poigniant (i.e. all the talk of secret keeping) considering the next arc to come. This should be interesting. 10/10
Stormbreaker: Beta Ray Bill #4 -- This series should have been four issues (or two for that matter). I feel like the story has really been stretching for six -- lots of repetition IMHO. Anyway, this issue was okay, but didn't blow me away. The art is solid, solid, solid. Hard to go wrong with a book that features Beta Ray Bill and Galactus. 6/10
Manhunter #9 -- I'm struggling with this series. I enjoyed the first few issues I picked up, but the last two less so. I enjoy seeing Kate in her personal life and as a lawyer, but when she dons the costume, I just don't care much. I don't even know why see wears it. What is her motivation? I'm sure the first five issues explain this. Can anyone fill me in? I think the ties to Identity Crisis have me a bit turned off as well. 6/10
OMAC Project #1 -- I picked this up out of morbid curiousity. Second half was pretty good, first half less so. Did anyone else have a hard time distinguishing King Knight versus Queen Knight in those first few pages. I was going by hairstyle only. The WW and Booster Gold pages were good. Batman pages were okay. I might pick up #2. 6/10
Young Avengers #3 -- I'm really digging this book. Art and writing are both top-notch. We learned a bit more about the YA's here which was good and I'm intrigued by the Vision's plan and how he selected/found these kids -- and what is their connection to the Avengers? This book has a Geoff Johns/JSA/DC feel to it which is nice. 9/10
Spectacular Spider-Man #27 -- Jenkin's last issue. Truth be told I picked this up because it was a warm, simple story featuring Peter and Ben (I haven't been reading previous issues). I didn't think they still did Spidey books like this. A breath of fresh air. Oops... and now Jenkins is gone. 8/10
As an aside, I buy Walking Dead in TPB form as well as Ex Machina (when it becomes available). It's painful passing on the monthlies.

I also read The OMAC Project # 1." Like Rob, out of curiousity, I suppose. Frankly, it was exactly what I expected to find. There was no surprise, no new info, no real "hook" to bring the reader back for the next issue that wasn't already there at the end of Countdown. The entire issue leads up to Batman learning that Ted is dead, and that the "Brother Eye" satellite is under Checkmate's control. This could have been accomplished in far less pages than they took.
I got the impression that just about anyone could have written this issue. It was too predictable. There was nothing unexpected in the issue, just a short extension of the story established in Countdown. For a first issue, which is supposed to really grab readers and make them anxious for the next issue, it was sorely lacking.
The art was nice, though. Moody and foreboding, without being too dark.

Am I the only one that feels we should just skip the middleman and give JRJR 22 pages to just show off his art? I'm not all that excited to see yet another story of Wolverine being the ulitmate bad ass. If he was as good as he says he is wouldn't he have been able to avoid being killed the first time? I like the story just not the pace.
I'm glad to read some of the comments about OMAC Project #1 because for some insane reason none of the comic shops in my town have any! I got various reasons as to why but apparantly no shop in town received any. This was the only mini from the IDENTITY COUNTDOWN that I was interested in picking up. From some of the comments maybe it isn't worth the trouble.

Mike, Modesty Blaise does rock! O'Donnell has such a way with the writing- I've read all the books almost a dozen times each.
I'm really enjoying Invincible as well. The scene in the diner was great, the way the gf figured it out and her friend dissmissing it. A nice take on that. And the final page was absolutely horrifying...

Ernest - I have to disagree with you on Wolverine...its one hell of a fast paced story with TONS of action. And I feel we havent seen a really tough Wolvie in the last few years...too many boring arcs and too much introspection and whining.
Last time he was a badass was in that 4 part Steve Skroce arc around Wolvie 150...Millar has made him tough and no nonsense again. JRJR helps a LOT though...the man can draw!

John, now that I think about it I haven't really read much Wolverine in the past few years. I picked it up again with the ENEMY OF THE STATE arc. I guess I was lucky to have missed all that whining.
