Funny how 74 years was all it took to go from kids being obsessed with baseball to not giving a shit.

The man probably drew more "Bob Kane" art than Bob Kane did.

RIP

Definitely and thankfully!

I met Shelly twice. The first time was probably a decade ago at a HeroesCon in Charlotte. More recently, he was at a Tampa convention several months ago. He was in a wheelchair and looked every bit of 91 years old. However, he was very nice and still had a firm handshake. He was selling recent cover recreations, and they are gorgeous. I'm sure they can be found on his website. He was a historically significant comics creator, and there aren't many of his caliber left.

Why do you think that is? The multi-million dollar salaries? Video games? The fattening of America?

The urbanization of America. The lack of inner-city ball fields, in favor of basketball courts. The dawning and slow growth of the NFL into Americas new favorite pastime. All of this really took place in a very short time, less than half of that 74 years. In the 1950s, baseball was still every boys favorite sport.

Plus, by today's standards, baseball really is dull as dishwater. :) Much more fun at the ballpark than on TV, tho.
