Adaptation Of DC Comics’ Constantine From Daniel Cerone & David Goyer Lands At NBC

Warner Bros. TV and DC Comics are on a roll this development season with a third high-profile project. Constantine, a drama based on the characters in DC Comics’ John Constantine stories, has sold to NBC with penalty. It is written/executive produced by The Mentalist executive producer Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer, the go-to writer for Warner Bros.’ feature DC adaptations. Constantine centers on John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond.

John Constantine, who first appeared in 1985 as a recurring character in the horror series The Saga Of The Swamp Thing, was created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and Jamie Delano. He was portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 feature Constantine and is rumored to be featured in the Justice League Dark feature Warner Bros. has in the works with Guillermo del Toro.

Constantine joins Warner Bros. TV/DC’s The Flash at the CW, a spinoff from hit Arrow, and a Gotham City/Commissioner Gordon drama at Fox, which has a series commitment. WME-repped Goyer has co-written The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Batman Begins, Man Of Steel and the upcoming Batman vs. Superman. On TV, he is the creator/executive producer of Starz’s Da Vinci’s Demons. WME-repped Cerone is the creator/executive producer of Canadian drama Motive, which aired on ABC this summer and is awaiting a second-season renewal.

I think Jon Hamm should play Constantine.

NBC Have Commissioned The Pilot For David Goyer’s John Constantine TV Show

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/01/13/ ... e-tv-show/

Quote:
TV versions of DC comics are looking to be rather decentralised.

Maybe the CW will get to tie-in The Flash with their ongoing Arrow, and perhaps even add another couple of characters to the mix as the years go by, but the Batman series, Gotham, is set up at Fox and now, it’s NBC who have ordered a pilot for a John Constantine series.

As you may recall, the show has been developed from a pitch by Daniel Cerone and David Goyer. It’s apparently going by the name Constantine, like the movie, rather than Hellblazer, like the comics.

Daniel Cerone is likely to run the show if it goes to air. His previous credits include Charmed, Dexter and, like Gotham‘s Bruno Heller, The Mentalist. The timing is such that, if the road ahead is smooth, Constantine will be on TV this autumn.

I know we’re expecting another American John Constantine, but we don’t actually know for sure just yet… they might go for a Brit. Or a Blonde. Or an actor. Any of those things that the fans have been asking for.

Looks haggard enough and unhappy enough for me.

Looks promising. I hope he can project the swagger, ruthless dickishness and utter self-loathing of the character.

Constantine should be a show on HBO called Hellblazer that has the same tone and mature content of the Vertigo book, a "True Detective" with dark sorcery. This NBC version will be probably be more like the New 52 guy, who is so boring compared to what he once was. Oh, and he's also supposed to be blonde. With as many blonde, British, good actors out there, one would think that this wouldn't be a problem.

Back in 1993, I saw a David Thewlis movie called Naked, and I thought he would've been a great Constantine (even if he didn't look like Sting).

Looks good, but they should've gone with Hellblazer as the title. Most people will probably connect it with the movie and wonder why they're doing a TV adaptation.

The lead is a little too manly. I've always perceived Constantine to be leaner, even malnourished at times. Not a deal breaker though. We all know that the casting could have been a LOT worse.

I think he works well enough. He's pretty lean, blonde, not far off from Sting in the 80s, who is of course the model for Constantine.

He really should be chain smoking though. :)

Matt Ryan was good on the short lived series, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. I liked the trailer and will be in for a few episodes at least.

It looks fucking awesome. Really looking forward to it, and wonder if Zatanna will appear.

The guy looks perfect for the role. The personality is spot on compared to Delano's. I have zero complaints about this one. I'll be watching it.
