I've always liked this guy. I actually kinda like him better than Captain Marvel... but I don't want him to replace Cap. To do so would cause him to lose his charm, in my view. (Yes, I know about "Trials of Shazam.")

That's a pretty "dark" looking Jr there.

Costume color scheme works better than Cap's (contrasting blue and yellow).

I had hoped that the Cockrum Capt. Marvel Jr. one-shot would lead to an ongoing back-up series... but no.

Yeah, but Big Red Cheese sounds better than Big Blue Cheese (which sounds too much like big bleu cheese).

But then again, I have always liked costumes with different color variations, such as Mon-el's reversal of Superman's colors etc.

Oy that was a stupid name! It's like when they get all cute and try to change the Legionnaires' names too. To me, that time period just found 60s superhero names and styles retro chick, which is why we have names like Lightning Lad etc. Hank wrote: King Marvel: One of the biggest holes in KC was the lack of an explanation why King Marvel and Mary couldn't change teh balance of power and stop Billy and be more effective.

Didn't they come up with "CM3" because if he said the Captain Marvel part of his name he'd change back to Freddie? I agree that it's a dumb name, but I can see why they felt they needed to come up with something different.

Well yeah, he's the only superhero who can't even say his own name! Which is pretty damn stupid. Definitely needs a new name. Have no idea what it would be although why not call him Shazam? Turn the tables on the rest of the family.

Also really disliked "CM3". Maybe "Prince Marvel" and then later "King Marvel"? I did get a kick out of the Elvis KC nod to him though as that was one of Elvis' favorite heroes (Cap) and that was why "E" wore that short cape in the '70's on stage, it was a nod to Cap.

The trouble is they haven't looked at the classic Captain Marvel, Jr. stories to show why Freddy was so popular back then. Freddy is the scrappy hard luck kid that Billy was, but Freddy didn't get the breaks Billy did. His big break was what Captain Nazi did to his leg. Billy embodies the promise of America - no matter where you start, you can make it here. Freddy showed you had to persevere during hard times. CC Beck said Freddy was Tiny Tim and Captain Marvel Junior was Peter Pan.
That's why if I ran the zoo, I'd smash Freddy's leg again and put him on the road looking for work so he could get the surgeries and therapy required to fix it properly. Keep Billy in Fawcett City. But have Mary off either in boarding school or just upstate caring for her adoptive parents. And one of the themes would be separation and reunion. As Marvels they can be reunited, but what they really long for is to be together in their real identities. I'm not sure if it'd be necessary to reboot their ages back to young teens, but it'd be easier to write them if they were all 13 again.

I liked it too but wish they would have done more with them, which was surprising as much as Ross loves the Marvel Family. Well, I suppose as weaknesses go, it's better than being vulnerable to wood or the color yellow but not even being able to properly identify yourself...I mean, at least shift him over to being able to say Shazam at some point...

As for Captain Marvel, Jr., though, I have only two words: Mac RaBoy!
