Quote: We have an enemy.
And it’s not the Gamma Dogs, or a return engagement with the Absorbing Man.
Bruce (Edward Norton), Betty (Liv Tyler) and now, Emil Blonsky have been cast in the upcoming Hulk movie, with Tim Roth stepping into the Abomination’s (or at least Emil Blonsky's) big shoes, this according to Variety.
From the trade’s description of the character:
Blonsky is a KGB agent who deliberately exposes himself to the gamma rays that caused Bruce Banner to morph into the Hulk. Blonsky has upped the dosage, making him larger and stronger than the Hulk, but unable to change back to human form. He blames Banner for his problem, and makes his best efforts to destroy the Hulk.
The film will be directed by Louis Leterrier, distributed by Universal, and is slated to open on June 13th, 2008.

This is looking more and more like a remake to me. KGB? Officially, they don't exist anymore.

But he won't be called the Abomination, because that's "silly", or so the creators of the film say. "The Incredible Hulk" isn't silly?

The Abomination? Man...I wanted the Leader*. The Abomination is my least favourite Hulk enemy. Even the Bi-Beast would've been better.
Still...if it's a total departure from the Ang Lee Hulk, then I may find something to like about it.
*Who is not, in any way, silly. Not at all.

We need a huge rumble.
Looks like Hulk will beat Superman to the punch by having two hugely powered people beating on each other. Too bad.

Superman will need a lot more than just an actual fight scene to pull me in after the abomination that was Superman Returns.

Someone here (Jay Glover, I think?) has a fantastic sequel idea for Superman Returns 2 that would totally erase all the major problems of the first film.
Although, I wouldn't mind if the Superman sequel does what the Hulk sequel appears to be doing and just ignores the original.

Bryan Singer himself has stated that he'd like to "go Wrath of Khan with it (the sequel)."

They said he'll be the Abomination, but they won't call him by name in the movie, because that name is too silly. As if the entire concept isn't silly, by that logic, including the main characters name. What's silly to me is the idea that it's silly, given the context.

Specifically, Zak Penn (the screenwriter for the Hulk sequel, as well as Elektra and X-Men 3) said that.

I get much of my information about movies from another Forum where they hate all superhero movies, and I missed the source.

That's not in the article I linked. Where did you come accross this info?

Personally, I don't have a problem with them not actively calling him the Abomination in the script. "Blonsky" is just fine. The fans know who he is.

How often did they refer to the Hulk as the Hulk? Venom was never mentioned in S-M3. There's really no need to give the monster a cool catch-phrase name.

I just don't understand, is all. I mean, they want to make the movies, with serious storylines and characters, but they think it's silly. Which is it?

This is something that Bruce Timm mentioned in interviews about his portrayal of Aquaman's brother in the Justice League animated series. They just called him "Orn" instead of "Ocean Master" because, well, that name looks fun on the page, but in spoken dialogue it's a little different. I accept that. A similar reason was given for the The Exorcist film where they didn't identify the specific demon possessing Regan by its name, Pazuzu.
I surmize that someone in the new Hulk movie will say something poignant like "Emil, was turning your self into an abomination worth it?" or some such thing.
