Bannings: I'm judging you.
One of those 80's music compilation infomercials was just on, and it got me thinking about some albums I still have on tape that I keep meaning to get on CD.

Tears for Fears - Songs from the Big Chair.
Sure, you could just download Shout and Everybody Wants To Rule The World, but you'd be missing so much more that is on this album. Every single track (including the weird ending track Listen) is incredible work. My favourite new-wave album, and a real stand-out work of the 80's.

The Escape Club - Wild Wild West.
Again, most folks just know it for the title track (and, I'll admit, it was what I had bought the tape for - heck, I didn't listen to any other song on the tape for at least five years after first buying it), but, if you get the chance, give the rest of the album a listen. A very cool pop-styled cyberpunk-lite album (not nearly as harsh as some later work by other industrial bands that would be more accurately described as cyberpunk)...more Liquid Sky than Hardware, I think. I think my favourite track is Only The Rain, with a tie between Who Do You Love? and Working For The Fatman for second place. Kick-ass stuff!

I'm sure I'll think of more stuff to post here, but I'm curious as to what other not-yet-conversions folks out there have.

Mostly stuff that will probably never be released on CD, like radio shows or obscure releases.

They finally came out with Rod Stewart's Foolish Behavior album on CD a little over a year ago. I have the vinyl version of that and love the song Better off Dead.

Aside from that I've been thinking recently about getting Richard Marx first album on CD. I won the casette version of that off the radio back in '87. It looks like the CD is out of print, but I'm sure I could easily find it used.

I have 2 huge boxes of tapes that need to be converted over, as well as a big milk crate of vinyl.
All KINDS of obscure stuff.
It really seems like an insurmountable task. I think thats wht I've been dragging my heels!

Ever since the great cassette purge of '03 (I threw away ALL of my cassettes when I moved from Spokane to Seattle), there haven't been too many things that I missed, so I guess that's a good thing. The last CD I bought that I'd had on Cassette was Aqualung by Jethro Tull.

I'm kinda vaguely looking for Your Arsenal by Morrissey, but there were only 2 songs on there I liked (We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful and You're The One For Me, Fatty) so it's not a huge priority.

The bulk of my music collecting has been post-CD, so about all I've had to replace is stuff I bought between '85-'89, and that was mostly Beatles & Who records, and I bought that stuff on CD ages ago. Or in the case of the Who, two or three times as the keep releasing expanded editions. Damn them!

And those are Russian imports of questionable legality...

Ian Hunter - All of the Good Ones Are Taken

About 6 months after I burned Hazel O’Conners’ Breaking Glass to disc, it came out on CD. Go figger.

They've been OOP for close to 10 years now. There was hope that when George's Dark Horse/WB catalog was reissued by Capitol a few years back, that the TW albums would be among them, but they weren't.

I actually just saw that Travelling Wilburys CD at the Best Used Record Store in Toronto (TM). For $40. I'm tempted, but I'm not a huge fan of any of them.

As for me, most of the Metal I had from the 80's - and still might like - needs to be converted (some Cult, some AC/DC, etc), but the big one for me is Maiden's Live After Death. I burned through 3 Cassettes of that one (double length shouldn't be one cassette), and can't bring myself to pay $40 to get it new on CD. I miss it.

Meh. As I find any remaining cassettes, I tend to chuck them as opposed to wonder why I haven't listened to SUCHA GREAT ALBUM in, say five or ten years.

I've also seen the first Wilbury's album selling for 40 bucks. Last year, my brother-in-law came by from out of town, and he gave back my Wilbury album that he'd borrowed (without my knowledge) about a year earlier. I hadn't looked for it in a long time, and didn't even know it was gone. A rare occurrence of someone returning a CD.

Now, if only I could find my other 5-7 missing CDs....

There are 3 albums I can think of that I re-purchased on CD because my originals just up 'n' vanished:

1) Voodoo Lounge (Rolling Stones)
2) The Globe (Big Audio Dynamite II)
3) The Essential Ride 1964-67 (Paul Revere & The Raiders)

That last one just kills me, because it's a greatest hits album, and I have most of their original albums, but there were like 3 previously unreleased cuts on there and they were really good ones.

Most of the casette tapes I have left are of albums not available on CD. I'm particularly looking for Jermaine Jackson's Dynamite album from 1984. There is a CD out by him with that title, but it's a greatest hits collection.

The one I'm looking for has Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming with Michael on background vocals.

Another not released on CD: Human League – Fascination! Ep

As for missing; my Hank Williams’ 40 Greatest Hits is missing. But I think my kid took it to Baghdad with him. And now it’s out of print.
