Why does the piano teacher call him her student at the end? Did he really go for a lesson that day?

I love that this movie went from an okay little flick to a cult classic considered one of the greats of the last 20 years. It seems to have been a purely word-of-mouth transformation.
(Roger Ebert probably helped. He championed the movie as part of his "Great Movies" series of essays)

If I was a DJ, I'd make sure that at 5:58:15 am on February 2nd, I'd play "I Got You, Babe," so that everybody's 6am alarms go off at just the right point in the song.

The kids and I watch this every year. Rankin Bass Jack Frost. I doubt we'll watch it this year because the Super Bowl interferes and trumps it.

I know, and even if he did (and he shouldn't have and probably didn't) she should hardly take credit for turning a well-trained piano player into a well-trained piano player. It's the only serious flaw in the movie that I can recall. Unless that bitch is the sort who lies a lot and regularly tries to take credit for things she had no hand in just to make herself seem more important or more interesting - then it wouldn't be a mistake.

Oh alright - it's possible (and given what happened, even probable at this point) since she was the piano player on stage, Bill's character, Phil, introduced himself to her that evening as one of her former students (ostensibly when he was much younger, or when he looked different, or whatever story he concocted, but since she couldn't remember him, she wasn't going to admit failing to recall another faceless student - how awful). I mean, he called her by name, he knew her habits, and he could tell her a quick story only one of her students could possibly know, or an inside joke she liked to tell, or something about the way she taught, etc., so it would be hard for her to deny it (and embarrassing to admit she couldn't recall one of her students). Anyway, since she "knew" him, he asked if it would be O.K. if he played one song for his girlfriend. She agreed and said that would be O.K.
When he turned out to be so marvelous, she felt pride her "former student" had become such a good player that she took credit for having had a hand in his education (even if secretly she couldn't quite recall his face).
There. I feel better about that movie now. How about you? I mean I liked it before, but now that part won't bug me anymore, even for a second, so I'll like it even better next time I see it.

It's a shame that during the making of this great film, Bill Murray was going through some personal troubles and and as a result has never spoken to director and former friend Harold Ramis ever again.

Last time I saw Groundhog Day, I noticed this one young guy as part of this couple on the dance floor that Bill Murray's character talks to. I thought he looked familiar but after a check on the end credits, it was a very young Michael Shannon!
