Alan Rickman was, indeed, irreplaceable. Is irreplaceable.

There is a wonderful new documentary out about GQ. Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary - airing on Amazon Prime. Highly recommended. It has interviews with the entire (living) cast, the director, the screenwriter, the producers, the set designer, the editor, with great insights into the process and goals, alternative casting, the first director, etc.

I always find it interesting how the tone, direction, even the soul, of a project like this can be affected by the smallest things. And the biggest things, the overarching vision which the crew managed to stay true to. I don't want to give too much away but... Brent Spiner said he and Patrick Stewart were bemoaning that THEY didn't make this film as a genuine ST film. And they should have. It would have been awesome. At least it did get made and we can enjoy it now.

I watched it, and it triggered a family rewatch of Galaxy Quest.

I also want to watch the documentary but really need to see Galaxy Quest before I do so I have reserved it on VUDU.

I recorded Galaxy Quest (1999) years ago and have it in my external hard drive for the DISH DVR.

I just rewatched it. I'm watching Monk (2002 - 2009) with Tony Shalhoub right now, just starting season 8, so it was good to see Tony in that role, too. Always seemed laid back and eating - probably stoned with the munchies. The weird stuff didn't phase him. :lmao: Not much like Adrian Monk at all. More like Antonio Scarpacci from Wings (1991 - 1997), which we'll watch soon after Monk.

I hardly recognized him in Men In Black (1997). Wow, what a make up job.

I forgot but was reminded I just watched him in BrainDead (2016) a few yers back. And The Black List. Recently watch him in a dramatic role, the movie The Siege (1998). It made me wonder how many languages Tony actually knows, or if he can just so convincingly fake it.

He's done a lot of stuff. Great actor. I'd watch anything with him it just to see him do different stuff.

Agreed. He really is a treasure. And is also VERY good in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Regarding the munching thing - that was all him. He felt like the character needed - something. The greasy paper bag was what he chose. I still crack up when he's on the shuttle eating cheese out of a cup with a tiny - pretzel? spoon?

I see that the Never Surrender documentary was released earlier this year on Blu-ray, complete with a Star Trek: The Motion Picture homage cover.

But the main reason I'm bumping the thread is Tuesday's release of a 4K edition of the movie, in limited steelbook packaging, for its 25th anniversary.
