Bought a sampler disc featuring the first 20 episodes featuring Barnabas Collins. Really liking it so far. Saw a lot of episodes when the Sci Fi channel over here ran a lot of episodes in the mid 90's, but this is my first time sitting watching it properly.

I can't imagine what it must have been like to live (and be old enough) when this was a daytime show. How cool.

I've often started to take the plunge and watch the old episodes, now that it's out in a complete DVD edition. But it's some 1,200 episodes.

Are you guys aware this big coffin of DVD's exists? Incredible value for the amount of viewing time.

I use to be big into this show when I graduated from secondary/high school. Scy Fy channel use to show reruns.

I ran home from school to watch it. 'Cause I am old and all. It was great fun and then it seemed to stall. The plot got even more absurd and it seemed like they spent all of their time running from the old house (Barnabus's) to the new house. I suspect drug use amongst the writers. Then it got cancelled. Ah, well. I was re-watching it in the 90s and still re-enjoying it. I was taping it to watch later and accidently taped the towers coming down instead. Kind of stopped watching at that point.

Interesting side note - the original female lead character Victoria Winters, who the story was supposed to be about, was played by Alexandra M. Isles, or Countess Alexandra Moltke depending on who you talk to. She left the show to have a baby. Anyway, much later, she was forced to testify against her former lover Claus von Bülow.

It was a Big Thing when I was a kid. Especially since older brother Bob was into horror so much. I remember getting together with the guys... "Hey! Did you see Dark Shadows today?" "No, I missed it! Was a bite? A bite?!?"

What if you watched one episode a day, M-F, when you got home from work? You'll have roughly the same experience I had during the original run

Big fan when I was a kid. My grandmother was a soap fan and a horror fan, so she loved it as well. With three or four available channels, it was pretty awesome to have a horror show come on during the time of day that had no programming for kids.

Anyone remember the primetime revival attempted in the early 90s? Didn't last long, but I remember it being a decent try.
It had the same storyline as the daytime soap, but condensed--where the soap took two years to tell the story, the primetime series did it in two months.

When I was growing up a local TV station re-ran "Dark Shadows" in the afternoons after school. I tried watching it for a while but was so bored to tears I gave up.

It must certainly have been a remarkable moment in TV viewing history--young boys following a daytime soap opera!

It is on one of my streaming services, Amazon Prime I think. They start at the beginning of the Barnabas story. I’m a few episodes in and I love it.

I'll give it a chance but I don't have high hopes.

FYI, the unreleased never aired WB DS 2004 pilot is out there in internet land. It runs 39+ min, it's pretty good I must say...

Yep. The lovely Joanna Going in the Victoria Winters role. Watched it religiously. Bought the DVD when it was released. I loved that I didn't see all the twists and turns coming, only the one at the very end of the series.

They also did a comic book run of the series around that time. I got most of them (if not all, I believe).

The Decades channel has been showing episodes of this show weeknights at midnight ET.Check your local listings.
Remarkable longevity this show has.Don't know of any other soap opera that has had the afterlife this one's had, with the reruns, video releases, etc.
