I don't know enough about this guy - his name comes up all the time in comics discussions, so I really should find out more. I really like some of these pictures so far - they seem Gil Kane-esque in many cases - but that Hulkey one is not to my tastes. The Wonder Woman, on the other hand, is magic!

Yeah, that Hulk looks dreadful to me. The other ones are cool.

Toth did finishes over Jack Kirby breakdowns for X-Men #12, the first appearance of the Juggernaut. It's a good-lookin' issue.

He's most famous for designing the Hanna Barbera superhero cartoons -- Super Friends, Space Ghost, Herculoids, Birdman, Thundarr, etc.

He's beloved among comicbook artists because of his compositions and use of blacks. He's widely regarded as up there with the Wally Woods and such of the world. He never had a long sustained run on anything and was difficult to work with, apparently.

The best collections out there are of his Zorro work, Bravo for Adventure and the Creepy Presents collection. But the best place to check him out is the Genius trilogy of coffee table books that IDW out out -- Genius, Isolated; Genius, Illustrated and Genius, Animated.

Even though he didn't do huge runs, he was famous for the way he did Batman and Black Canary.

You probably really recognize him for his Super Friends designs, though.

It's probably a good thing that Heritage put those two Underoos pages of Batgirl and Supergirl
on the same auction block. If they had them separately, I would have placed some bids. Together,
I have no chance of winning.

If you spent much time around motorheads growing up you'd have seen some of Alex Toth's automotive-themed work in drag racing magazines and such:

That's from the Charlton Bullseye (fan/prozine) issue #5.

His Dell Four Color Zorro work looks rushed in places, but it's still quite enjoyable.
Hermes Press has a nice hardback collection of the complete Toth Zorro.

In it, from circa 1995 or so, Toth presents an occasional new ink drawing:

And although not Toth, Hermes has another collection of Dell Zorro (pre-Toth)
which features gorgeous painted covers and some nice Everett Raymond Kinstler
artwork as well as others.

As much as I love the Disney Zorro TV Show, I am sad that the entire Toth run on
the Zorro comic featured photo covers from the TV Show instead of Toth art.

Those Batgirl and Supergirl Underoos pages went for over five grand in auction.

That's some expensive art. You could almost get a commission from a (former) major comic book artist for that! ;)

Or I could just use my HA account to snag a high-res image.

You could buy a pretty good new motorcycle for that! Or a workable used car.
