William Stout -- a guy I only discovered a little while ago (relatively speaking, the last 10 years have been a blur) but who has really become one of the most inspirational artists to out there for me. He's got it all in my eyes -- that tight, clean rendering style like Art Adams but a bit more loose and cartoony with his figures. If I could draw like anyone besides Kirby and Frazetta, it's probably this guy. He's got that perfect blend of Arthur Adams, early Mad Magazine, Frank Frazetta, pulp illustration, and underground comix.

You probably know him best from his movie posters.

Stout is great. I have a few undergrounds he did in the 70s and early 80s. I don't blame him for going where the money is in film posters, but I really miss his sequential work.
Does anyone else find his work similar to Frazetta's? Not exactly the same, obviously more cartoony, but there's something about it that always reminds me of Frank. Maybe his inking style?
Anyway, I think he's overlooked.

He's also famous for bootleg album covers during the 70s -- hard to find good scans of those, but these turned up.

Nice find, I hadn't seen any of those bootleg album covers before! Thanks for posting them.

I have Amazon Women on the Moon on VHS and DVD and have watched it many times, but I never clued in that Stout did the poster (which is the cover of both movies I own)!

He might be just as famous for his dinosaur illustrations, which he's turned into quite a side business -- this alone could probably support an artist's career.

But being a giant nerd, I'm most attracted to his works in the world of geekery. He grew up in the 60s, so his tastes run with that generation. Being something of an old soul, I find many of our tastes overlap. For example, his love of Burroughs...

Thanks! He posts a lot of great stuff, I just wish it wasn't all low-rez. But yeah, please share anything you can find, his work is difficult to find despite him being so prolific. But if you don't mind lower resolution, he's posted quite a few here: https://www.williamstout.com/news/journ ... -part-two/

I wouldn't have guessed that was him either. He usually has a distinct style, but he can really be a chameleon if he wants.

That fantasy stuff and the dinos are incredible. I'm not a huge fan of caricature and "dirty" underground comics so I don't care so much for those, but the Burroughs, Kong, Harryhausen, and dinosaurs? Man, that's fantastic.

Wow, surprised you don't like underground comics, I figured that would be totally up your alley with your love of punk rock culture.

But he's dabbled in that movement and he's a huge EC fan to boot, doing any homages to that publisher (as you can see in the homage on one of the Who bootleg covers). Continuing where I left off...
