Definitely a sad one for me. Not long ago, I did a deep dive and watched the complete Pee-Wee: the original live show, the two theatrical films, every episode of "Playhouse," the Netflix special, and then finally the live show on Broadway. It's all really good, and it made me realize that I am actually a big fan of Reubens' writing sensibilities. He was clever, hilarious, and one-of-a-kind. A real inspiration.
THE PEE-WEE SAGA "The Pee-Wee Herman Show" live show from 1981 Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (theatrical film) Pee-Wee's Playhouse Season 1 Pee-Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special Pee-Wee's Playhouse Season 2 Big Top Pee Wee (theatrical film) Pee Wee's Big Holiday (Netflix special) "The Pee Wee Herman Show on Broadway" live show from 2011
All of it is good. And having the live specials as bookends is a great way to experience the whole she-bang.
Reubens was a wonderfully unique and clever artist, controversies and all.
(He's great in MYSTERY MEN as well, one of the best superhero movies ever.)

We've worked our way through the Playhouse series and have seen the movies multiple times. We watch the Christmas Special every year. And I have watched Mystery Men! Maybe we'll watch the Netflix special tonight.

Paul Reubens’ cause of death has been revealed months following his death in July.
The late actor died from acute hypoxic respiratory failure, according to his death certificate that People obtained and his rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter Saturday. The condition happens when the respiratory system cannot adequately provide oxygen to the body.
Reubens, the man behind the iconic character Pee-wee Herman, died in Los Angeles at the age of 70. He had also been battling two types of cancer for several years prior to his death, his rep said.
