Star Fleet, apparently, agreed with Kirk. And let's face it, most people who claim or think he broke it pretty much ignore the fact Kirk knew of exceptions in the convoluted law, which he has read thoroughly, while fans have never been allowed to see the wording on the prime directive in its entirety, so I tend to agree with Kirk and Starfleet, too. Kirk never violated the prime directive, at least as far as I can recall.

Why is McCoy's face so gross to me. It sort of crosses over to uncanny valley.

Kirk and Chekov don't seem too bad, but McCoy and Spock look really weird or much older. Bones is the worst of the lot.

I am pretty sure that art was by Tom Sutton & Ricardo Villagran during DC's time with Trek. I always thought their art styles didn't mesh very well..

I don't think that's who drew that panel. The name "Gordon Purcell" is in my mind, though granted that it based on memories at least 20 years old ...

You are probably right- my memories of those books are about 35 years old. I just never thought the DC take on Star Trek was very good.

Barr's writing, but I couldn't get past the art in their DC Trek books. It was dull and uninvolving to me.

I am gay for Peter David so you know Tom Sutton was one of the better Star Trek artists I’ve seen, but I don’t really remember any of the stories. Tom did a great version of all the main crew members except Kirk, iirc. I only got a few of the DC, Marvel and Gold Key ST comics.

It was really the DC Star Trek series that made me a fan, it turned Star Trek into a show I sometimes watched in the afternoon to something I really got into. I saw the first issue on the racks, with the George Perez cover, and got excited that it was something I could get in on the ground floor for, and it led to buying not just the comics but as many novels as I could get (both the old Bantam ones and the newer Pocket ones), rent the movies on VHS when I could persuade my dad to rent both a VCR and the tapes, and also religiously watch the reruns which had now moved to Saturday nights after the local news.
So I will always have a love and a soft spot for those comics, including the Tom Sutton art.

Which is to say, yeah, that art doesn't look like Tom Sutton at all. I think I stopped buying with issue 50, so that probably comes after I quit.
