This is one of my all-time favorite Batman stories. Not sure if I ever want to pop in and see what that Batman ended up like. The article writer is correct, Alan Brennert would pop in and drop some amazing Batman stories and did perhaps the best Earth 2 ones. Here he especially shines.

That's an interesting take on it. He was destined to be Batman anyway, it just happened differently. I like it.

If you never read it I highly recommend it

There's a collection of all of Alan Brennert's Batman stories. It's a great read.

Such great stuff in that one. Only clunker for me personally is the alternate religious one, but the rest are outstanding.

Thanks for letting me know, Allen - I'm a lapsed reader, though, and barely even read or watch anything now.

Brennert's comics tales were fantastic. My favorite is "The Autobiography of Bruce Wayne" from The Brave and the Bold #197, followed by the Deadman story in one of the DC Christmas specials.

You’re welcome. I’m a lapsed reader too but most of these are from the 80s

Such good stuff with heart. I love the Uncle Bruce stuff. This is my Batman

It's also in this very good book (I used to check this out of the library over and over again when I was 10).

It also has the story from B&B 197. It's a testament to Brennert's talent that even with his small number of tales, he had two stories in THE GREATEST BATMAN STORIES EVER TOLD.

Maybe part of his secret. He didn't try to do too many. Just very careful with the ones he did.

I've still got The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told.

Could be. He is my favorite Earth 2 writer too.
