List some favorite trilogies.
Franchises that have more than three movies in them but wherein you personally only have three of them in your own personal head-canon are eligible.
For me personally, trilogies that are not self-contained shouldn't be eligible, but I guess whatever if you want to do that. (Examples: Iron Man 1, 2 and 3. Those three movies are not the self-contained saga of Robert Downy Jr.'s Iron Man. NOT EVEN BY HALF. Thus ... ineligible! Unless you want to include it, I guess. But please don't.
Please.
Don't.

My all-time favorite: Back to the Future. Can't be beat. It's the number one trilly.

My fan-canon only accepts three Terminators:
Terminator T2: Judgment Day Terminator: Dark Fate
(Only the Linda Hamilton movies, in other words.)

I quite like the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I don't consider 4 and 5 to be part of my personal canon.

Dawn/Rise/War, the "Planet of the Apes" prequels, make for a satisfying trio.

I like all three "Rush Hour" movies.
There, I've said it.

Well, there are four of the Legendary Pictures Godzilla/Kong movies so I can't mention those. Apart from the obvious ones everyone will cite - Indiana Jones and Star Wars - I can't think of any that stand out to me. I wish there'd been a third Every Which Way But Loose movie so it could be listed as a trilogy....but, alas... There were only two Pacific Rim ones and I didn't bother with the second one. We won't get Rampage parts two and three. I'm sort of stumped. I haven't seen any of the Fast/Furious stuff and I can't think of any franchise that's made that much of an impact on me given the criteria. I saw that first Mission Impossible one but didn't see any of the others. I could select three random James Bond films but even that's cheating, really. I have nothing to contribute to this thread.

I have my personal Exorcist trilogy comprised of the original film, The Exorcist III (which completely ignores the sequel that came before it) along with one of the 2 prequels, Dominion.
The Dark Knight trilogy, of course.
Star Treks II-IV make a fine sort-of contained story.
I am admittedly cheating with my last choice because it's a thematic trilogy, not a story trilogy (the 3 movies have otherwise nothing to do with each other) but I am very, very fond of John Carpenter's "Apocalypse Trilogy" consisting of The Thing, Prince of Darkness, and In the Mouth of Madness. But if Doot says that does not count, I move that my comments be stricken from the record.

But if Doot says that does not count, I move that my comments be stricken from the record. Hanzo did a thread a while back about trilogies that were more thematic in nature. For that thread, my vote went to Waiting for Guffman/Best in Show/Mighty Wind. Hector mentioned Time Bandits/Brazil/Baron Munchausen, which is also a good one. Treks 2-4 did come to mind for me, but I wasn't sure if I felt right in counting them, since they are part of such a much larger franchise. By the same token, the Karate Kid trilogy is no longer stand alone, since Cobra Kai has expanded on the story (in a way that is actually way better than those movies were, which might be a first?).

Of course it's not always the worst, since sometimes it course corrects missteps that might have occurred in part 2 ... buuuuuut it's never the best. NEVAH

I enjoy the Evil Dread Trilogy, even though Evil Dead II is mostly a remake of Evil Dead. And Army of Darkness is more fun than horror. There is more to it since it goes on to much later become a TV Series with Ash vs the Evil Dead, which is pretty good, but the movies are enough.

I second the choice of the Evil Dead trilogy. Fun films.
I also really like the Naked Gun movies. Leslie Nielsen was so good in those.
George Romero's original trilogy of Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead stand as a trilogy for me. The subsequent remakes and return to the series by Romero in the 2000s are left out of my Dead series (Though Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead is probably his best film).
David Lynch's Twin Peaks makes up the greatest trilogy ever for me personally: Movie 1: Twin Peaks Season 1 & 2 (1990-1991) Movie 2: Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) Movie 3: Twin Peaks- A Limited Event Series (2017)

I'd go with The Man with No Name trilogy, since you can count Unforgiven as a fourth movie in the series.
The original Scream trilogy was very good, although they eventually went back to that for more cash
The Pitch Black trilogy was more fun than it had any right to be.
The Star Wars Made for TV Furries trilogy (Christmas Special and two Ewoks movies)
And there's also thematic groupings of projects that are completely unrelated but seem to hit on the same concept at the same time like bad 2000s SF - Armaggedon / Deep Impact / ID4, or all the 70s big budget disaster (Poseidon Adventure, Towering Inferno, etc)
In a lot of ways in modern Hollywood though, trilogies are like that old quote - you either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain.
