Perhaps no on in entertainment exemplifies the 80s more than John Hughes. Only 15 choices are allowed in the poll so feel free to submit one you might think is better than those listed. Yes, Home Alone was 1990, but how could I not include it?

Planes,Trains and Automobiles.because it has John Candy and Steve Martin, two of the funniest people to ever step foot in front of a camera, performing Hughes' script.

I'm having a hard time voting in my own poll. It's down to Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller, and Trains, Planes and Automobiles.

It's between Vacation and Sixteen Candles.

Some Kind of Wonderful.
And I feel like we've done this before. Maybe when he died.

Ferris Bueller.

No, I just remember some hand-wringing because I like Some Kind of Wonderful, and I was wondering if I put the same thing. I think when he died we looked at his body of work and had a good thread about it.

I also love Uncle Buck. Doesn't look like we've had a poll to me. I found several threads where I said Some Kind of Wonderful was my favorite, sometimes gratuitously injecting it into a conversation. Here was the 3 pager when he died, not a poll: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53049&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

The latter is amongst my favorite movies ever (as noted in the other thread), but the former is such a huge part of my teen years, I have a hard time not choosing it.

In the end I had to go with the Breakfast Club. It captured early the angst and confusion of a generation that what would be known as Generation X in the 90s.

I'm a fan of Ferris Bueller, but the wife is obsessive about Sixteen Candles. You can't go a month in our house without some situation prompting her to quote at least one of the following lines.
"Fred....she's gotten her boobies. And they're so perky!"
"Don't be a smartass." "Okay, I'll be a dumbass."
"Now I have a place to put my hand."
"Dammit, Ma, I got my headgear on!"
"I can remember LOTS of things."
"No more yankie my wankie! The Donger need FOOD!"
"NO, he is not retarded!"
"Doooong? Where is my automobile?" "OTTO MO BEEEL???"
"You make someone a bridesmaid and they shit all over you."
Most recently, after I told her it would cost three grand to replace the air conditioner, I got this response: "Three grand? I hear the grill alone costs three grand. Do you have three grand, Jake? I don't have three grand." with a brief pause and then "You know in the movie it's five grand, right?"
