Hey y'all - what do you think are the best or most memorable comic story first pages? Here's three that come to mind for me:

Those are all great and this is a really good idea for a thread. I'll have to have a look at the remnants of my collection and see what I can find.

This is actually the second page of The Incal, but probably the most iconic page in the first volume.

Way to make a good guy look sinister there.

A lot of fans like it when the good guy looks sinister -- Batman, Spider-Man, Spawn, the Hulk, Ghost Rider, etc.

Tom Scioli has talked about this connection between the superhero and horror genres, how giving superheroes a slight horror flavor gives heroes a little edge (Dracula > Batman, Frankenstein > Hulk, etc.)

Yes, the classic Batman first page right above it is a great example of that (Neil Adams did a great scary Batman). I thought the sinister Triton image worthy of mention because the others you refer to have long made looking sinister their stock in trade. Triton, from what little I remember of him, not so much. It looks like Triton's being set up for a "misunderstood monster" situation there.

Yeah, he's wounded and looking for help from the Avengers, then creates a stir with the general public as he staggers through the streets until he's shot and seeks refuge in the sewers.
