I always kind of felt sorry for Bob Saget. I think his natural personality and comedy style got completely subsumed by the role that made him really famous, and it caused him some trouble for the rest of his career in terms of expectations. People going to see a family friendly comedy act were in for a rather nasty surprise.
Still, two extended TV series gigs? Nicely done, Bob.
Spot on Jason. I hated Bob as a kid because of his roles. Then I loved him as an adult as I saw that wasn't how he was. I really loved the friendship he had with Norm Macdonald and can't believe both of them are gone. RIP
Man, this one hurts. Bad. I loved Saget from the first time I saw him on HBO's Young Comedians show, hosted by Rodney Dangerfield. Pushing 40 years later, I still quote lines from that bit (and that show was loaded with good comedians - Bob Nelson, Louis Anderson, Sam Kinison, Rita Rudner, Yakov Smirnov).
I was surprised when he got the AFHV and Full House gigs because it was out of character for what I was familiar with, but he pulled both off very well.
I finally got to see him live a few years ago - dream realized.
He was outstanding in the Aristocrats movie, and he seemed to have a special relationship with Gilbert Gottfried. Gilbert's set at Saget's roast killed.
Man, this one sucks hard.
RIP, Bob. And thanks.
