Is posting threads like this more important than telling your fiancee what food is in the fridge?

You asshole.

Predators is my favorite Predator movie. Just because it's cool to see a whole bunch of them running around killing people.

That last Predator movie was better than expected.

My son predicted one major plot twist, I predicted the other. But it was still a good popcorn movie.

Reasons why Predator is better than your favorite movie:

1. It has spine-ripping in it.

2. It has the part where Predator has to take off his weapons because Arnold is not armed.

3. It has the Predator laughing maniacally near the end.

True fact: Predator was a VERY significant movie in Arnold's career. Predator was the movie where we all said "Hey, this guy can actually be a in a good movie, for sure."

Predator was the move where Arnold sent a message that he was not going the Stephen Segal route. After Commando, Raw Deal, and stuff like that, it was looking pretty Segal-ish.

Then it went all Predator and Total Recall-ish.

I always thought that when the Predator was "laughing" at the end, he was just playing Billy's laugh, which he recorded earlier in the film.

I seemed to recall that Stan Winston designed the Predator on the plane to a meeting with the producers. They had a design, from what little I've seen, but they had no confidence in it (I think there's some test footage out there - it's a red lobster-like thing?)

Predator is one of my favourite movies... the urge to randomly quote it is never far away.

"RUN!!!! Get to da CHOPPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

:)

Plus, T2: Judgement Day. It won the Academy Award for "Best Movie Ever".

T2 was the crowning achievement, the capstone, when Arnold was at the top of his potential. Actually, the shark-jumping probably occurred not long after that.

So Predator was the turning point into awesome movies.

You could make a case that it was Terminator (the first one), but that one was more like the lightning in a bottle that got him the starring roles. Predator is the one where he got off the Raw Deal and Commando track, and became a sci-fi star.

Do you think it was Conan or Terminator that put him in the big leagues?

I just looked at Conan's box office.... $39 million in 1982, which is roughly $89 million today. Conan did pretty good.

It did fine, but he was already a household name, and the rap on him then (still) was that Conan was a role uniquely suited to him. His accent and perceived lack of acting chops didn't hurt for a role like Conan. If anything, Conan was comical charicature of what he was capable of.

Terminator was the "OMG" moment when his potential as a "tough guy" was apparent. He dominated the screen in that movie.

Yeah, I wasn't arguing it was Conan, I was just surprised it did as well.... I always thought of it as a "B" movie.

At the time it was hyped big time. I think they hoped it would be bigger than it was.
