An autobiography of Carmine from an issue of Strange Sports Stories (which headlined The Brave And The Bold for awhile):

I have no memory of making that post. Judging from all the replies, I may as well have avoided doing so altogether. :)

A great idea, but before its time, apparently. :)

That's all right, I didn't even check the date before I clicked on the link. I wondered what that article had to do with Carmine Infantino...

Here's something I'd never seen before today. (Sorry about the obnoxious watermark, but I couldn't find a clean copy.) It's Carmine's Batgirl head sketches which were used as models for the character's look in the 1968 Filmation Batman cartoon:

Like Colan, Infantino is one of those artists who needs just the right inker.

He drew the first comic I ever bought, Star Wars #25. Can't say I was ever much of a fan.

Me, too. Except for the "now" part.

I picked up the Star Wars Omnibus today (lifted, not bought). I turned right to an issue of Infantino art. It looked horrible to me, brought back horrible childhood memories. So I'm not getting.

Later in life, I got to see his early work and his work in his prime. He was one of the all time greats. Such talent. But man, his late 70's, early 80's Marvel work was terrible. His faces all had lantern jaws.

There's a lot of artwork out there with Carmine Infantino's name on it that I cannot stand,
But a lot of his earlier stuff that I love.

It's mostly his inker you love, IMO. At least based on the Elongated Man and Flash stuff I've read, the few that were not inked by Murphy Anderson or someone like that were very much in keeping with his 70s and 80s work. Very scrawly and ugly.

If you want to see Infantino inking Infantino in his prime, pick up the Showcase Presents Elongated Man. It's one of the rare Silver Age series that he inked himself.

True. I do like Murphy Anderson.

That elongated man shows those same ugly Infantino faces.

I think his inker must have always just Sharpied those right out of there.

I like Carmine Infantino a lot, especially his Flash, Elongated Man and Adam Strange. He really didn't fit in at Marvel's super-hero books, but he did some damn fine Star Wars stuff there.

I have a lot of love for the Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino Flash run in the 1980s.

And here I am, looking at the gorgeous, highly stylised pop art of a giant of the genre, in his prime.
