Plastic Man! Elastigirl may be smokin' and starred in one of the best movies ever, but Plaz is hilarious and appeared in many of the best comics ever (by Jack Cole).

Then there's Plastic Sam...

Yeah, I almost did a write-in for Plastic Sam. I love that story. Russ Heath was surprisingly good over Kurtzman's layouts, as I never really though of Heath as a humor artist.

There's speculation that Heath outright inked Kurtzman's layouts. If so, it was a good choice, and one of the few published Kurtzman stories where Kurtzman didn't ink himself. I wonder if Heath would have done more for MAD if he'd delivered something closer to his own style, since this story came along shortly after John Severin left an opening for a "realistic" artist in the rotation. (Not that Plastic Sam was that kind of story, but the Fifties were a crazy time, daddio.) Kurtzman later used him on Little Annie Fanny, so it's not like he held a grudge.

Interesting. I always thought the story came out great. It certainly looked like Heath just inked Kurtzman, but I don't think the result is bad.

Warner should make a Plastic Man movie. Basically Deadpool meets The Departed. On acid. Jon Ham could pull it off.
