I bought the Conan Marvel Years Omnibus Volume I, but was only able to get the standard cover, and not the much cooler direct market variant, which reproduced the cover of Conan The Barbarian #1 (see below). Is there a way to just get the dust cover or perhaps a custom made one?

I don't know of anyone who sells them consistently, but it is a business idea that I have floated several times on the Marvel Masterworks forum boards. I figure that many people would like to replace torn covers or get a better choice of dust jackets after the fact.
No one is overly interested in doing so. Sorry, Doctor Evil. They just preorder and get the ones that they want. Personally, I have almost always preferred the original cover to any of the more modern takes or recreations. I can't understand while these are the "variant" covers and not the other way around. But I guess maybe it helps to get people to preorder them… and thus Marvel can better predict sales and inventory.

The cover artwork on my volume I is by a modern Conan artist and it doesn't make sense. It's an OK drawing, but it sure as hell aint Barry Windsor-Smith.

I missed out on an original cover for one of the Sword of Conan volumes, but I was considering buying the non-variant cover anyway. Sometimes they're as good. If I'm not in on the pre-order, I'm happy just buying the least expensive version available at that point.
My plan is to get the first four color Conan volumes. I mainly want to get to issue #100. That's enough.

They always seem to punish the retail buyers -- the cover for the non-direct Omniboo are lame, and the classic awesome cover goes on the direct-only version.
For what it's worth, I got mine from Tales of Wonder, and they get the direct cover. So mine is the Conan #1 cover. Take heed in the future if that matters.

I'm willing to bet if you could combine the exact measurements of the dust jacket you have (so, measure the one you have) with a really good digital file image from someone who has the BSW cover version (a full scan image of front back and spine all at once - a hi res digital pic would work) , and any good print shop could run one off for you on a thin laminated plastic that you could crease into a dustjacket . Might be a bit pricey because of the custom size, but, you could probably get close enough for government work.

There's a huge user community out there doing custom binding of their comics into hardback DIY omnibus editions. They've got some contacts and guides on custom dust jacket providers. Here's on thread about it, but unfortunately the link the guy posted is defunct. https://thecomicforums.vanillacommunity ... st-jackets

They should just have Alex Ross paint his version of a classic cover for all the omnibus books, and that should be the special version, with the standard version having art from the actual contents.

All that said, I buy a book for the insides, not the covers. I’d prefer to have the BWS version but ultimately couldn’t give a fuck.

Also, I pre-ordered this last year. Hopefully it’ll be shipping sometime soon.
