Seeing as we're into 4 episodes already, I guess it's time for a thread. Have been surfing various forums to see what opinions are out there, they seem to fall into 3 camps:
--they love a female Doctor, they love Jodie in particular, the companions, the stories, the touchy-feeliness of it, it's all good
--some don't like a female Doctor, or Jodie in particular
--some don't mind a female Doctor or Jodie, but don't like the companions, the weak stories/writing, the political correctness gone amuck, the series being high-jacked away from its primary Sci-Fi roots
I'm willing to give Jodie a chance, but so far she sure seems to be a female version of David Tennant, her mannerisms are WAY too similar.
My take, by episode:
1. The Woman Who Fell To Earth: B- , kind of neutral, not bad, not great
2. The Ghost Monument: B+, pretty good
3. Rosa: C- , slow and boring
4. Arachnids in the UK: B- , the good is offset by the political slants
It's insufferable to watch these episodes on live broadcast, I have to tape them to skip thru the 28 minutes of commercials!
And you say...

I've been enjoying her performance so far. Delightfully quirky. Some lines i can "hear" other Doctors saying them.

I'm in the first camp. Very much enjoying Jodie, the companions and the social justicey stories. My wife loves this season too, and we disliked Capaldi overall.

I don't mind a female doctor. And maybe Jodie will get better. I don't mind the companions, either. But so far, I'm not loving this season - though mostly I blame the stories and not the actors or the gender change. Not thrilled with her costume, either. Oh, sure, I thoroughly scoff at her cobbling together a sonic screw driver from spare parts just laying around in the 21st century, and I detest the way she stands there and slowly and dramatically lowers the screw driver like a pistol she's about to aim and shoot, but they always rely too much on this thing. At least if it were made by the tardis or with high technology, one might more easily excuse it. And stories, well, this last one about giant spiders growing that big in so short a time just from toxic waste and no other cause is just rubbish. These are not having enough of a science fiction feel to them, IMO. And was she saying trapping spiders and letting them starve is good, but shooting them for a quick death is bad because, you know - guns = bad = all the time? Maybe I misunderstood. As a fan of the series, I'll watch them, regardless, but I sure hope they change gears and get better soon.

To me it's a throwback to the Russell T. Davies era that I loved so much.

Whitaker is fine as the Doctor.Like all 3 of the companions. The season opener was fine, but the other episodes are pretty run of the mill stuff.Don't like the new TARDIS control room-filming on that set must be difficult.I really don't like that the show airs on Sunday instead of Saturday.

The actors are all fine. It's the stories and the villains I am finding lacking.

I felt Capaldi's first season suffered from that, too.

I trimmed my cable down to the very basic level, and now I don't get the Dr. Who channel anymore

I was able to watch the first episode of the new Doctor on the BBC app for free.
Eh.
I can wait a long time before I watch the rest (when they become free to watch on Amazon Prime).

5. The Tsuranga Conundrum: C- , the sci-fi part of the episode was pretty good, but the cartoon piglet was a joke, then the pregnant man. Gag me with maggots...
6. Demons of the Punjab: B+ , pretty good. Seems to have borrowed a plot line from Star Trek "The City on the Edge of Forever", that a sad event 'must' take place in order to ensure the future happens as it did. Sad that a man would kill a holy man and his own brother to prevent a wedding between a Hindu and a Muslim, as in Star Trek: Edith Keeler must die to prevent her from influencing FDR resulting in Germany winning WWII.
Jodie is still channeling David Tennant way too much. I'm still giving her a chance, but it seems more often she's like a school marm leading a band of teenagers around each week on a field trip.
Newsflash: no Christmas special for you! It's now turned into a New Year's Day special. Why? They ignored the golden rule, if something isn't broken don't fix it. Ugh...

Whitaker is a lot less hyper than Tennant.I'm okay with that, and with her school marm relationship with her companions. At least none of them are crushing on the Doctor.I'm glad to see all the flirting and double entendres go away. At least the special won't be pitched as the most "Christmasy" thing ever. Now it'll be the most "New Yearsy" thing ever.

The finale would have made a pretty good episode 3. Complain all you want about Moffat and Davies, they could usually stick the landing. Weakest season finale since The Twin Dilemma, which is universally held as the worst all-time Who story.
