Part of the fun of HeroClix is customizing figures, to create a character not available in the WizKids line.



Above is a figure of the Grey Hulk, from Hulk #1 and USAgent, and (far left) The Captain. These figures are tiny, so it takes a little while to do even these simple "repaints". I am working on the Vulture (still), and have promised a friend of mine I will do a team of KISS for him (yikes!). The figures originally look like the ones below.



Notice all the gear around Ultimate Cap's waist? All that has to go away, as does the star on both their shields. Chop, chop, grind. One other reason to paint the figures is that (occasionally) the paint job sucks, and sometimes the costume isn't quite what you'd like.



Viper here? She doesn't look like this:



Thats the way she looked in the comics I read as a kid! Her hair isn't green, and her boots, and such aren't light green like thy're supposed to be. Also:



Between the swooooosh of her hair, you can see the sculpter clearly left the small of her back visible as flesh, but the green paint covers it up. I repainted all my Vipers to "my" model, and will paste them in here when I get a picture of them.

Darren, has anybody ever built a custom figure from scratch? How do you decide on what power ratings it should have?

Indeed! Of course, in the days of the information...well, you know...there are sites on the net to "structure" a dial, and give a fair point value to a figure with those attributes. So, say you had to have a figure with (thinking) invulnerability, leap/climb and pulse wave, and you wanted him to be really good at attacks and moves and defense. He'd have a very high point total!

the Kingdom Come version of Superman is likely, the most powerful AND experienced version of just about ANY superhero, right? His point value is 265! Thats 90% of most teams.
These sites offer ways to adjust and balance your figure so it doesn't cost ten zillion points, and there are some abilities you just cannot get on the same dial. Invulnerability is noted as a grey box behind the number, in the Defense position. Well, combat reflexes are a light green box in the same position, so no figure has both those abilities.
Oh, and they also have "helper" programs to print the dials, so you can paste them over an existing hero's stats. Or a villain, for that matter!

This one I'm going to link; the guy has done numerous Dr. Strange related repaints and customs. Not all are entirely successful, but they add up to a great exploration!

This is most of the custom jobs that I have in my own figures right now. Thats the "Dark" Scarlet Witch from West Coast Avengers (I used the the rookie figure which is a Brotherhood member), the Brotherhood and rookie Quicksilver, the rookie Hulk and Daredevil, I corrected Viper to be on model with my memory of her, and USAgent.
I included some real objects, to answer the size questions. Thats a quarter, over by Pietro, and regular, standard dice.
Not sure what Spidey is doing up there...

Yeah, so it looks more like they are flying! They have a little peg that slides up and down, for an ability (rarely used) called "soaring".
