Friends - Just wanted to let you know about my new book Comic Book Fever. It's presently in Previews as a June release. The cover and introduction are by Alex Ross. Fever celebrates the pivotal comics era of 1976-1986. It's a love letter to the era, the medium, and its creators.
"Inside this full-color hardcover are new articles, interviews, and images about the people, places, characters, titles, moments, and good times that inspired and thrilled us in the Bronze Age: Neal Adams, John Romita, George Pérez, Marv Wolfman, Alan Moore, Denny O’Neil, Jim Starlin, José Luis García-López, The Hernandez Brothers, The Buscema Brothers, Stan Lee, Jack Davis, Jack Kirby, Kevin Eastman, Chris Claremont, Gerry Conway, Frank Miller—and that’s just for starters."
For me, 1976 was the perfect starting point because that's when I became cognizant of comics. I was striving to make the experience as authentic as possible. Also, the years covered here represent the era when the comics industry went through some monumental changes that still affect us today.
Comic Book Fever is a book that celebrates the pivotal comics era of 1976-1986. It’s a love letter to the medium, the era, and its creators, but it’s also a bit more than that because every chapter and sidebar carry a story, and all these stories together paint a larger picture of the entire comics industry. We’ve added many layers to this book because we wanted to make it fun and accessible to everyone.
Fever covers plenty of history. It shows how this period was a defining one for the industry. It also celebrates the exciting experience of being a reader in that era.
I spent five years working on this book. I conducted 70+ interviews to tell this story - this book is a one-shot and not part of a series. I put everything I had into it.
They couldn't be more in my wheelhouse if they tried.
Although I think I actually enjoy the earlier Bronze Age stuff more because it's from that era when I was very young. If you gave me a choice of a Kamandi cover versus Dazzler #1, I'd go Kamandi every time.

I mostly posted it for you since it seemed like the book you'd write if you could -- but I know we have other Bronze Agers like Simon here that would also be highly interested.

That doesn't sound like a very fair comparison... like if I was trying to say I like the 90s over the 80s and said, "If you gave me a choice between Kingdom Come and Dazzler #1, I'd go KC every time."
Doesn't appear that they cover many of my personal favorites from the era, but still looks like a fun book.

No "Micronauts," for one thing. Or "Defenders." Or that era's "Brave and the Bold."
Although taking another look at the table of contents on AmazWAN, I notice that it does mention "Marvel Team-Up," the first "Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe," the Archie comics, and some others. And now that I think about it, quite a few of my favorites were from a few years earlier, but I may have first READ them around 1976 or later. So they wouldn't be in this book's time frame, but I might have associated them with the period.

Jay, Trevor, and Simon -- did you ever get this one? I had a digital copy but the price has come down a lot among AmazWAN sellers, so I ordered a print copy for about $20 including shipping. Check out the AmazWAN link to see a preview, but trust me that this is a book made especially for you -- covers comics from 1976 to 1986. Trevor, it even covers stuff like Elfquest.
