I wrote Harlan a letter in the Nineties asking if he'd contribute an article to a literary magazine I was developing, about his contentious relationship with an alternative comics publisher of our mutual acquaintance. He replied with a post card denying he'd "even heard of the man." The front was a pen and ink sketch of Harlan. I still have it somewhere. I wasn't a fan of his writing overall -- too many ellipses, too many exclamation points, too many dated hipsterisms, daddio -- but I could read interviews with him forever. Boy he was an incredible raconteur.

I wonder if the Ellison comic vault rumor is true or not.
