Made it to the comic shop today and bought the following:

SHOWCASE PRESENTS THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER Vol. 1

SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE #1 (new series)

SILENT WAR #1 of 6

MOON KNIGHT #7

CRIMINAL #1-4

DOCTOR STRANGE: THE OATH #1-4

Also came damn close to buying THE COMPLETE BONE, but couldn't part with another $40.

I'll have more to say when I read them, but feel free to comment in the meantime if you'd like.

The Oath rocks. Excellent Dr. Strange. Although I do cringe every time I read the words 'Night Nurse'. That name annoys me.

BKV is great on Doc Strange and Criminal is one of my favorite new books.

The Unknown Solder Showcase was a clutch purchase by you. It is very good.

I'd love to read any thoughts you have in the Unknown Soldier thread here:

I ought to pick up the complete Bone and see if my wife likes it. I bet she'd be enthralled.

Wonder if my local library (that has an awesome graphic novel selection) has it?

BKV's Dr. Strange is brilliant with some nice art by Marcos. Criminal is solid.

The Unknown Soldier is probably pretty cool, let us know how you like it (I'll check out Jay's thread too) and... Bone must be in everyone's collection.

Please don't ever say that again, Steve. Some things are meant to be private.

IN PROGRESS READING REPORT:

DOCTOR STRANGE: THE OATH - Great series. Weird, fun, scary, and cool, which is everything a Doctor Strange comic should be. I really wish this were an ongoing by the same team, but since it's not I'll enjoy it for what it is. This is 1000 times better than the JMS STRANGE series.

SILENT WAR - I love Frazier Irving's art, so this already starts with high marks. I haven't read SON OF M, which this spins out of, but I didn't have a problem following the story at all. In fact, it felt like a nice sequel to the Jenkins/Lee INHUMANS series from a while back, so I was happy.

MOON KNIGHT - Not working as well as the first few issues. I like Huston's take on the characters, and Finch's artwork is very effective, but the narrative structure feels off for a monthly comic. Still a very good comic overall, and better than any Moon Knight outside of Moench/Sienkiewicz. By the way, if you ever need to spell "Sienkiewicz", just do a search for STRAY TOASTERS and copy/paste. That's what I do.

SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE - I loved the original SMT, and I liked this one, too. It's a nice updating of both the character and the book, and I look forward to reading more.

Jacob, thanks for the tip. I'll be ordering it tonight.

I'll finish CRIMINAL tonight, and probably start THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER.

Hahahahaha... I didn't even know what I was typing when I typed it.

Incidentally, I hear that copy of The Complete Erection is on sale. I should grab it.

I just got that spider-whomping volume of Jeff Smith's masterwork myself recently (see how I avoided the whole erection metaphor there? It was hard on me to do).

CRIMINAL is excellent. I'm so glad I picked these up, rather than waiting for the trade. Can't wait to see how the story ends, and what the next storyline is.

Started THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER, and I'm enjoying it much more than I expected to. Kubert's art is incredible, and the stories don't feel hokey or dated at all. How long did this series run?

Its interesting how some genre fiction (westerns, war stories) that are set in a specific era dont date as much as other stuff from years gone by (Spidey vs the Hypono Hustler at the local disco)..ive been digging the old Jonah hex stuff..now im eager to check out the UNKNOWN SOLDIER stuff.
